What are your thoughts on Kate as a full name

Yes, it will seem like a 'dated' name to our kids as it's such a popular 'mum' name - Kate, Sarah, Clare etc

There are far nicer and more interesting names!

MissHenty · 05/09/2019 12:27

That’s interesting. I think it will feel like an older lady name to a young child as every other parent will be called Kate or sarah or whatever

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 05/09/2019 11:35

It's nice. There are three of them in my nephew's class though (reception) so it seems quite popular

MissHenty · 05/09/2019 10:44

Really dull and boring and overdone.

Every other child will be saying to your child “oh my mum/aunty is called Kate”.

Rhymes with “hate” too!

Got any others names?

Tootyfilou · 05/09/2019 10:28

Kate not Late!

Pinkstulips · 04/09/2019 14:57

It's fine, perhaps a little dull - I know at least five different Kates so generally need to add a surname to identify them.

Tootyfilou · 04/09/2019 14:32

I love it. Classic but cool. Never met a Late I didn’t like.

aintnomountainhighenough1 · 04/09/2019 14:28

dull, plain, overused, ordinary, everywhere

notso · 01/09/2019 16:39

I really like Kate, it's a name I'd be happy to be called. Don't like Catherine, it's too fussy.

Thatnovembernight · 01/09/2019 16:21

I like it. Agree with the pp that said it has similar sort of vibe to Emma. Though has the advance of not being used anything like as much at the mo.

timetochangeagainforever · 01/09/2019 16:20

My friend said her mum named her Louise as it couldn't be shortened?! I've known her 30 years and she's always been "Lou' or "Lou Lou' to all of our friendship group! Never Louise

timetochangeagainforever · 01/09/2019 16:18

It's nice but not individual - depends on whether you want her to have a popular name or not. I'm in my 40s and know loads of Kate's in their 40s, 30s, 20s

Silenceissilver · 01/09/2019 14:34

Boring!!

Cookit · 01/09/2019 13:01

I’d expect the full name to be Catherine, Katherine, Katharine or Kathryn.

Every single Kate / Katie / Katy I know is really some form of Catherine.

Clayplease · 01/09/2019 12:42

I love it. Have a very good friend called Kate and she's kind and beautiful- probably affects it but I think it's a great name.

I love Kate. I never tire of it. Right now neither Kate nor Katherine are in the top 100 names so good time to use it too.

Lovely

MikeUniformMike · 31/08/2019 20:31

I suppose. Katherine could be Kat, Kitty or Kathy too.

ElevenSmiles · 31/08/2019 20:29

I have an 18 year old called Kate.. love it

Sturmundcalm · 31/08/2019 20:24

my 19yo DD, despite the fact she always goes by Kate, still likes the fact she has Katherine as an option... i think it's fine to just go with the shortened version but giving her the full name does give more flexibility in future.

Atlasta · 31/08/2019 20:22

Really lovely

EdWinchester · 31/08/2019 20:22

I like it, but the association with Kate Middleton would put me off.

Not because she's offensive (too blah to be), but because people would think you'd done it in tribute.
