What are your thoughts on this girls name? With the diminutive Maddy.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cbeebiesrehab · 04/09/2019 17:52

Although I don’t like the term ‘chavvy’ there is another thread where certain names are being called ‘too posh’ and therefore ‘wet’ which is just as bad. Unfortunately people do link certain names with certain classes, that doesn’t make it right, but I would say it happens more commonly than people would admit.

Derbee · 04/09/2019 17:51

I think it’s lovely. Nicer than Madeleine

Sparkandgold · 04/09/2019 17:38

What I can't stand about some posts are their classist attitude and snobbery. It's fine not to like a name but to not like it because it's not in the right class or 'chavy' and actually voicing it is really sad and embarrassing

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/09/2019 16:38

@courtlee is right - all names were new at some point, and just because a name is really new doesn’t make it less good than older names.

100 years from now people are going to be complaining about the ‘new’ names others want to use, and saying how much better and more classy names like Khloe and Chardonnay are. The more things change, the more they stay the same!

Sparkandgold · 04/09/2019 15:13

Urgh makes my skin crawl when ppl use the term 'chavy'. It's really low and derogatory and tbh anyone using the term I wouldn't listen to their opinion.

lovelyupnorth · 04/09/2019 12:10

Madison was made up by Disney 1984 film Splash.

courtlee · 04/09/2019 11:12

How is Maddison a made up name Confused all names were made up at one point . Don't know why some people need to be so rude

Pinkstulips · 04/09/2019 10:46

See, in French Madeleine sounds nice, the emphasis being on the last syllable.

But in English people emphasise the MAD part which isn't very nice at all imo

lovelyupnorth · 04/09/2019 08:35

Madison is a made up Disney name and very Chavy

If you want to use Maddy - which I love please shorten from Madeleine. The proper name.

Pinkstulips · 04/09/2019 08:32

I don't like Madison (it's a big US city in Wisconsin) as a girls name at all, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 04/09/2019 00:25

Spell it Madison & it's OK.

Lavenderblues · 03/09/2019 23:14

I dislike the MAD part.

Melrose86 · 03/09/2019 23:10

Love it. That's the name I would choose if I have a girl. Love it shortened to Maddie too x

Sparkandgold · 03/09/2019 22:25

OldGrinch don't you think using that term is pretty derogatory?
It's really awful term! Really, should grown adults be stooping that low?

OldGrinch · 03/09/2019 21:14

I don't like it sounds very chavvy

PeriComoToes · 03/09/2019 21:06

I like it!

There's a great picture book called 'Double Pink' in which the character is called Maddison.

MissHenty · 03/09/2019 21:01

Love it. I know MN will hate it but many outside MN love it and I do too

eccentricalice · 02/09/2019 10:12

I like Madison

OtraCosaMariposa · 01/09/2019 13:51

It's a bit dated. Very 1990s. And yeah, the extra D does nothing.

soapona · 01/09/2019 13:50

I personally like it but it's the chav version of Madeline. When my DM was alive it would be the kind of name she'd veto as "not shouting that across the play park".

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/09/2019 13:50

I've taught a nice Madison @ILoveAnOwl

MikeUniformMike · 01/09/2019 13:47

Maddison is a surname, as is Madison. Awful as a first name.
Madeleine is nice if you want Maddie.

NoodlesMcGee · 31/08/2019 14:54

Expect it will be a very common name amounts the "chavs" thanks to that pop/grime song by Not3s - Addison Lee ("penh thing called Madison...")...!

ILoveAnOwl · 31/08/2019 14:48

I've never met a nice Maddison. For me, it's one of those names I see on a register and think 'Oh bugger'...

Roselilly36 · 31/08/2019 14:46

I like it. I know lots of Alison’s so I don’t think it’s odd for a girls name to end in son!
