So I'm really struggling with names !!!

My surname is ( griffiths )
My boyfriends surname is ( Barclay-evely )

Hence why we can't double barrel our surnames. 😢

So we decided our little boy would have my surname but we would change his surname when/ if we get married so our boys name needs to go with both our surnames .

We both originally liked the name max 🥰
That's really stuck with my boyfriend but me being me I keep changing my mind .
I would happily have max as his name but I normally like unusual names so we thought of having a name I originally like as his middle name but struggling to find one that fits both our surnames . I really like the names :

Finley
Harley
Cody
Leo
Flynn
Iv been trying to persuade my boyfriend to have max as a middle name but he's having none of it 😂😂

But I'm so stuck on what to use . Help me out 😴😴 would consider any other/new suggestions xoxox Tia xxx

Also calling yourself mummy is a bit twee along the "hun" lines. Parents, mother, mum, is less so

How bloody patronising!

I love Leo.

AverageMummy · 30/08/2019 19:53

Griffly is a combo of both surnames

Cookit · 30/08/2019 18:46

Leo is really, really popular OP. It just seems unusual as you never really meet a Leo in their 20s, 30s, 40s but amongst babies now it’s the opposite of unusual. And with Finley.

Max is lovely and you can always use Maxwell or Maximilian to make it more unusual.

I like Max.

NameChange30 · 30/08/2019 13:50

Good suggestion, my favourite is Maxim.
If he's going to have a double barrelled surname it would ideally be something short like Maxim or Maxwell, nothing too long like Maximus or Maximilian.

Pythonesque · 30/08/2019 13:46

I'd seriously consider calling him Max short for Maxwell, Maximillion, Maximus, Maxim, (? any others) which might satisfy your yearning for more unusual names and gives him a choice when he grows up, depending on personality and so on.

NameChange30 · 30/08/2019 12:39

Btw, I think it would be a shame to change his surname later but if you do eventually change it to Barclay-Evely I would avoid names ending in -y such as Finley, Harley and Cody.

Have you considered combining just one of your partner's surnames with yours, eg
Barclay-Griffiths
Griffiths-Barclay
Evely-Griffiths
Griffiths-Evely

Then if the two of you get married you could either both keep your surnames or both change your surnames to match your DS.

NameChange30 · 30/08/2019 12:29

Great that you are giving baby your surname, Griffiths is a nice surname too.

I think Max is a great name and should definitely stay on the shortlist because it's your partner's favourite.

Why not pick another name you both like and then wait and see which one suits baby best when he is born?

If you go with Max you could always pick a more unusual middle name.

diddlediddle · 30/08/2019 12:20

Max is definitely the best option for a first name out of your choices - it's lovely, go with that. Plus it works well with both surname possibilities.

Max Finlay flows best I think of your choices and is the classiest option. Lovely.

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2019 12:11

I'm with your boyfriend, Max is the best of that bunch. Also calling yourself mummy is a bit twee along the "hun" lines. Parents, mother, mum, is less so.
