Frances - classic and unusual

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 22:08

Sorry wrong baby name thread. Yawn.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 22:04

Well thanks!

userabcname · 25/08/2019 22:01

Not a fan of Frances, it's quite an ugly sound to my ear.
Eva is probably the best on the list although very popular.
I increasingly like Lola but I can't help singing Copacabana every time I see / hear it which does put me off slightly.

tabbiemoo · 25/08/2019 21:55

Not a fan of Frances it is a bit too serious/dull for me. I prefer pretty names. Francesca is similar but imo prettier.
Eva is nice but very popular
My favourite of your choices is Lola

Frith2013 · 25/08/2019 21:47

Frances.

There are a million Eve, Eva, Evie, Ave clones.

loutypips · 25/08/2019 21:46

Lola is short for Dolores- which translates to pain in English (dolor is pain in Spanish).

I like Eva. Have a couple of friends with the name and they are lovely.

MrsGilly1 · 25/08/2019 21:43

Frances

Can have Fifi, Cissy, CeCe as nicknames etc x

Redspider1 · 25/08/2019 21:39

Frances is my middle name.
I like it.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 25/08/2019 21:39

Frances is lovely; elegant, uncommon and sophisticated while Frankie is cute. Too many Evas/Evies/Avas and personally don't take the name Lola seriously.

Redspider1 · 25/08/2019 21:38

Francesca? Then you can call her Cesca for short. Not keen on Fran.

Snakedoctor · 25/08/2019 21:36

I have an 8 year old Eva, and although it's meant to be a really popular name we have only come across one other, we live in a largish town and attend a 3 class intake primary. I love the name just as much now as I did when she was born.

MondeoFan · 25/08/2019 21:35

Frances is awful as is Fran.
I had a friend whose middle name was Frances and she used to be embarrassed to tell people.
I like Eva which is better than the more common used Ava.
Lola is just no.

CoolCarrie · 25/08/2019 21:35

Lola is awful, makes me think of a stripper! Frances is classy and timeless.

Isthebigwomanhere · 25/08/2019 21:35

Frances. Suits all ages. Classic but not old fashioned. Strong yet feminine.
It's a beautiful name

joystir59 · 25/08/2019 21:35

Eva is lovely. Classy and simple. Frances is not old fashioned enough. Lola- I know several dogs called Lola.

Boiledeggandtoast · 25/08/2019 21:32

I had 3 boys, but Frances was the name I would have called a daughter.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 25/08/2019 21:32

Eva

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2019 21:28

Frances, but I don’t like Frankie, so Eva.
I can’t abide Lola.

zafferana · 25/08/2019 21:28

Frances.

Eva Braun (Hitlers wife)

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl, with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress came down to there ...

formerbabe · 25/08/2019 21:27

Frances sounds frumpy to me..
Lola is nice but a bit gimmicky and will date.

Love Eva

Douberry · 25/08/2019 21:24

Frances definitely. Not keen on Lola particularly. Eva is so so.

delusionalnights · 25/08/2019 21:23

@notso What diminutives can be used?

OP posts:
Strongecoffeeismydrug · 25/08/2019 21:23

I would say Lola as I have one 😊

notso · 25/08/2019 21:19

Frances
Frances
Frances

Not popular but not 'out there', classic, suits all ages and has good choice of diminutives.
