Athena - the only name I truly love.

Lovely

DuchessOfDukeStreet · 25/08/2019 18:35

Love it. The Athena I know is Greek and pronounces it Athen-NAR, rather than Athee-na, as I've generally heard it here.

OtraCosaMariposa · 25/08/2019 18:31

Athena is a great name. Strong, classical and not going to date. I am similarly fond of Adelaide.

BogglesGoggles · 25/08/2019 18:27

This seems a bit weird to me but I can’t quite put my finger on why. Maybe it’s just that Athena is too famous?

SoftBlocks · 25/08/2019 18:25

Athene is lovely too.

ConfCall · 25/08/2019 18:24

Gorgeous. I know one, she’s 2.5yo.

WildCherryBlossom · 25/08/2019 17:24

Not too ridiculous at all. It's a known name, not widely used and very pretty sounding. Perfect!

Kanga83 · 25/08/2019 17:17

I love it. I know Greek sisters called Athena and Elena. Beautiful name.

VLCDoingIt · 25/08/2019 16:46

Love. Love. Love. ❤️

GloriousMystery · 25/08/2019 16:43

I really like it, though have a minor preference for Athene -- though I suppose you would potentially get people mispronouncing it as 'A-THEEN', then, so maybe Athena is safer.

When I was ten or eleven I loved a novel by (I think?) Jane Gardam called The Summer After the Funeral, about an eccentric teenage girl called Athene who believes she's the reincarnation of Emily Bronte.

userabcname · 25/08/2019 16:34

I love it! I know a couple of baby Athenas so I don't think it's too out there.

VeganVeganVegan · 25/08/2019 16:34

I know an aleathea who goes by lee.

tompointer · 25/08/2019 16:33

That is what my niece has called her baby. Athena Rose. Beautiful name.

coconuttymummy · 25/08/2019 16:30

I adore the name Athena. I don’t think it’s too crazy, just unique. X

GeorgiaGirl52 · 25/08/2019 16:24

I would have used that if I had another daughter.

KatherineJaneway · 25/08/2019 15:16

I really like it although I'd personally choose Hera but that's irrelevant Grin

TempsPerdu · 25/08/2019 15:15

Athena is beautiful - not too out there at all. Only thing that kept it off our shortlist for DD is that there’s a large Greek community in our area and people would assume Greek heritage if we used it.

GreenHatHacker · 25/08/2019 15:11

How about Athene if Athena brings back too many poster shop memories? Athene Donald is an amazing role model scientist for a girl to follow!

RickOShay · 25/08/2019 15:11

Lovely name. I also like Athene.

AverageMummy · 25/08/2019 15:09

I don’t like it but no I don’t think it’s too out there & it doesn’t make me think anything particularly negative

Dippypippy1980 · 25/08/2019 15:05

Not too out there at all.

It’s beautiful, and different while still bing familiar.

Love it.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 25/08/2019 14:57

Sorry, but you can't use it because it's at the top of my names list Wink

Thatagain · 25/08/2019 14:55

Nice name. Have you conciderd Aleathea that's also nice I think.

DontCallMeShitley · 25/08/2019 14:50

It is a nice name. I remember the shop and Athena always makes me think of the poster of the tennis player showing her bum which many people associate with the shop.

joystir59 · 25/08/2019 14:32

Common Greek girls name
