Having said that I like David, Owain and Bronwen best of your names.

MerryMarigold · 25/08/2019 05:36

I think you have a few considerations with family names eg. Can't call baby after only one mum/ dad unless v good reason. I also believe middle names don't need to sound great with the other name as so rarely used but as a person or is nice to have a middle name which means something, perhaps another family member chose it or it has a special meaning or significance. We asked my parents to give dd middle name and dh's parents to give ds2 middle name. Dh's dad has since died and I think it's a nice memory that ds2 knows his middle name came from his grandad.

Roisin

Nonatron · 25/08/2019 00:57

@Proseccoinamug yeah, both of us have welsh and Irish connections and my DH has English connections too. We are both very family focussed which is why a fair amount of the name mentioned are family names. It’s just narrowing them down is the issue! 😂

Krisskrosskiss · 24/08/2019 23:20

I love Arthur. I love Ada and also really like Eden. I quite like Erin too but I know a few so I think it may be extremely popular if that bothers you?

Proseccoinamug · 24/08/2019 23:18

Thomas - nice, classic
John
David - both dated and boring
Richard - horrible and euphemism for ‘dick’
Sean - ok if you have an Irish connection
Arthur - nice but popular
Owain - lovely
Finn - Also lovely.

I’d go with Owain or Finn

Erin - nice
Eden - ok, bit modern and try hard
Ada - lovely
Saoirse - I’m unsure how to pronounce
Bronwen - nice
May - pretty
Rose - pretty

Both underused as first names despite being popular as middle names.
Roisin- lovely. Might have some pronunciation problems outside Ireland but this is my favourite.

You have an Irish and Welsh connection?

MikeUniformMike · 24/08/2019 20:55

Thomas - like it
John - love it
David - love it
Richard - like it
Sean - a bit dated in the UK
Arthur - it's OK
Owain - I like it but not unless you are in a Welsh-speaking area. Owen is an alternative.
Finn - great but too popular and likely to be a bad boy name

Erin - ok but wouldn't choose it
Eden - no
Ada - programming language
Saoirse - only if Irish
Bronwen - lovely (but will be misspelt as Bronwyn and pronounced as Bromwin)
May - not keen. Mary is nicer
Rose - ok
Roisin - only if Irish, might be a bit dated

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/08/2019 20:42

Oh and Thomas

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/08/2019 20:41

From the boys list keep
David
Richard

Girls list
Erin
Eden

Nonatron · 24/08/2019 19:50

We are both Welsh/Irish hence the Welsh and Irish names 😂

bluechameleon · 24/08/2019 19:46

I like Thomas, Arthur and David for boys and Erin, Rose and Bronwen for girls.

poppykittylily · 24/08/2019 19:34

Adore John! Use John!
Thomas is ok too.

Out of the girls, I like Rose and May. Very common middle names but lovely for a first name

PrincessLouis · 24/08/2019 19:27

Love John and Rose for similar reasons - undisputed classics neither used much (Rose often used as a middle name but rarely as a first). Johnny / Rosie good for little ones.

Thomas / May also good. Richard and David are also classics but seem much more dated to me. Arthur, Finn, Erin, Eden, Ada are a bit faddy. Sean, Owain, Saoirse, Bronwyn, Roisin are fine assuming you are Irish / Welsh! If you are perhaps John / Rose + Irish / Welsh name? Rose Bronwyn is good. Good luck Flowers

aquarius1994 · 24/08/2019 19:13

Richard or David

Rose for a girl

Nonatron · 24/08/2019 19:09

My Aunty is a Bronwen. It’s a great name

OP posts:
Newearringsplease · 24/08/2019 18:59

I've got a Bronwen

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 18:58

I’m surprised by May & Rose being described as over popular - May has been given to less than 0.01% of babies for the past 20+ years & Rose less than 0.1%.....

Whattodo20192 · 24/08/2019 18:55

Finn for a boy
Saoirse for a girl

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 18:54

Thomas - lovely
John - ok
David - not a fan
Richard - dislike
Sean - hate
Arthur - lovely
Owain - ok
Finn - love

Erin - ok
Eden - lovely
Ada - love
Saoirse - dislike
Bronwen - dislike
May - nice

Roisin - dislike

MrsGilly1 · 24/08/2019 18:42

Thomas & Erin

userabcname · 24/08/2019 18:34

Thomas - boring! Every second man and boy I know is called Thomas/Tom. I don't understand the popularity.
John - quite nice, a strong name.
David - ok, not mad about it.
Richard - not a fan.
Sean - ok.
Arthur- probably the best on the list.
Owain - like.
Finn - not a fan, very popular.

Erin - very popular, not a huge fan.
Eden - like.
Ada - like.
Saoirse- like.
Bronwen - dislike.
May - dislike.
Rose - love! My favourite!
Roisin - ok.

TommyShelby · 24/08/2019 18:26

@CatteStreet definitely not 😂😂 although I did have a boss who was John Thomas.. and he was a completely dick lol

user1493494961 · 24/08/2019 18:25

Thomas or Erin.

formerbabe · 24/08/2019 18:25

John (strong and classic, definitely due a revival)

Not keen on any of the girls names to be honest but Ada is the nicest imo.
