First name with Iris as middle name

QueenOfThePumpkins · 23/08/2019 06:41

DH and I have decided on Iris as a middle name, but aren't sure what to put in front of it Grin

We like nature based / floral names and have thought about

Violet Iris
Amber Iris
Melissa Iris (close to being ruled out as wouldn't want it shortened to Mel)

None of them are quite hitting it. Any suggestions?

Iris May

Iris is too beautiful and strong to be a middle name imo

BeanBag7 · 24/08/2019 16:23

Sorry just read your second post.

BeanBag7 · 24/08/2019 16:23

I wouldn't go for two flowers e.g. Rose Iris

Also the iris is the coloured part of the eye so I wouldnt go for a colour name, especially one that could be an eye colour e.g. Hazel Iris, Jade Iris

Any reason you can't call her Iris as a first name?

BillywilliamV · 24/08/2019 06:40

Jennifer Iris

Given that Iris also refers to the coloured part of the eye I would avoid using any name thats also a colour (Violet, Amber or Hazel, for example) as it sounds like you’re naming an eye colour.

@Owwlie and @Oysterbabe, that had absolutely not occurred to me! This is exactly why it's good to post on here, thank you. That rules those out then.

There are some lovely suggestions here, thank you, we are getting quite a list together. My favourites now are actually Harriet and Charlotte, but unfortunately DH disagrees. So we shall see!

My gran who recently died was Iris, so I wouldn't feel it appropriate to use as a first name. I think I'd be happy to use a great-grandparent's name or that of a family member who died a long time ago, but to us Iris is my lovely gran

My daughter is Florence Iris

Oysterbabe · 24/08/2019 05:21

I don't think using a colour works because it sound like you are describing a flower. Like Red Rose.

Tillygetsit · 23/08/2019 23:10

Daphne Iris.

TatianaLarina · 23/08/2019 18:05

Iris or Violet as first names. Amber or Melissa as second names.

diddlediddle · 23/08/2019 17:49

Two flower/plant names in a row is pretty unfortunate.

Iris is beautiful, don't cheapen it with another flower in front!

Lots of nice other suggestions though. Of your original ideas I like Amber best.

SaffronFields · 23/08/2019 15:20

I think Iris is better for a first name but from your list I love Violet Iris. Violet Ivy would be nice too!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/08/2019 15:18

Violet Iris is far too rhymy.

Our little girl is Orla Iris. Orla means "Golden Princess" and you probably know Iris also means rainbow, so she's our pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - especially pertinent for us as she was a rainbow baby x

Proseccoinamug · 23/08/2019 11:53

I wouldn’t use two flowers eg. Violet Iris, Rosa Iris.
Longer names seem to flow better.

Madeleine Iris is gorgeous.

Owwlie · 23/08/2019 10:29

Given that Iris also refers to the coloured part of the eye I would avoid using any name thats also a colour (Violet, Amber or Hazel, for example) as it sounds like you’re naming an eye colour.

We’re considering Iris as a first name if DC2 is a girl, I love the name.

Rosalind

Why have you ruled Iris out as the first name?

AdalindMeisner · 23/08/2019 09:23

I think two flowers is one flower too many, but each to their own. I like Iris for a first name though!

sandyfoot · 23/08/2019 08:09

No real suggestions but reading this list I'm struck by how many suggestions are flowery names. 2 flowery names in a row seems OTT to me
