First name with Iris as middle name

DH and I have decided on Iris as a middle name, but aren't sure what to put in front of it Grin

We like nature based / floral names and have thought about

Violet Iris
Amber Iris
Melissa Iris (close to being ruled out as wouldn't want it shortened to Mel)

None of them are quite hitting it. Any suggestions?

I love Harriet Iris! Gorgeous.

This may be very personal, but Violet Iris makes me think 'virus' 🙈. I love Iris as a name though.

QueenOfThePumpkins · 26/08/2019 09:17

@Benjispruce, I couldn't care less whether other people like the name I choose or not. I asked on here because I'd run out of ideas, and several people have suggested names I hadn't thought of which I'm now considering :)
Also the eye colour thing hadnt occurred to me at all until I posted on here. If I'd named my baby Hazel Iris and 2 weeks later someone pointed it out, I'd have wished I chose something different. Not because of other people not liking it, but because now I've seen it like that it sounds silly. I have seen many other posts where people want actual opinions, but I was hoping for new suggestions and perspectives. Hopefully that makes sense...

I don't think Iris works as a middle name. It needs to be a first name. IMO.

Nonnymum · 25/08/2019 22:10

If you both like Iris why don't you use that for her first name?

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 22:07

I just find these threads bizarre. You will get half of the people saying awful name, yuck, can’t stand it and the other saying they love it. What’s the point as you say, op will have to choose and live with her choice. Can’t understand being influenced by random people who may or may not be your type of person in real life ! There are several a day now.

RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 22:01

I disagree Benji, but at the end of the day it's up to OP to figure it out. All I'm doing is providing my view on things.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 21:32

Most

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 21:31

What I’m saying is they are not often called out together after say a Christening or similar so I wouldn’t get all in a state about whether it’s an adjective or noun. Not many people name children after anatomy so must wouldn’t associate Iris with the eye, rather the flower as it’s s girls’ name.

RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 21:20

Also, what's the point of giving your child a middle name if you never intend to use it?

RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 21:13

Well, good for you Benji but that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 21:05

18 even

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 21:05

I have 2 DDs and only ever use their middle names on forms. They are 17 and 15 now so can’t see that changing.

RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 20:55

But you don’t call her Hazel Iris out loud ! She will be Hazel won’t she?

Maybe, maybe not. I often refer to DD by both her first and middle name together.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 20:52

The amount of baby name threads on this site is peculiar. How can a load of strangers name your baby? What does their opinion matter? Choose a name you like.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 20:51

But you don’t call her Hazel Iris out loud ! She will be Hazel won’t she?

Nautiloid · 25/08/2019 14:51

I think a 3 syllable first name sounds best with Iris, but at the end of the day you don't use your middle name much so doesn't really matter.
Allegra?

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2019 14:49

The OP said that she liked nature names, hence all the flowery suggestions, but I agree that 2 flowery names is 1 too many.

Less obviously flowery....

Erica Iris (Erica is Latin for Heather)
Rowan Iris

I like Eleanor Iris though.

RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 14:47

Oh, it does to me. Particularly if you call her Hazel Iris and she grows up to have hazel eyes... Like say-what-you-see.

joystir59 · 25/08/2019 14:47

I think will every single suggestion Iris works better as a first name

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 14:45

Wouldn't occur to me Red !

RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 14:43

No colour names IMO... Whether you're thinking of Iris as a flower or the coloured part of the eye it just reads like a noun phrase. Like brown eye or red rose.

Hazel Iris, Violet Iris, Scarlet Iris.... No.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 14:43

Why not 2 flowers? Think how often you use the middle name, or say it out loud. Don't worry about eye colour, some people are ever thinking this!

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 14:41

Florence

joystir59 · 25/08/2019 14:40

Or Iris Mae
