So there's only 1 name that I'm absolutely in love with for our baby girl. The only thing stopping me from using is the fact a friend from school (not a close friend but someone who I've had on Facebook for years and years) has used this name for their baby girl who is now 6months old.

Since I've been pregnant we've spoke a few times on Facebook and she always comments on my scan photos and statuses to do with the baby. From time to time we'll message and she'll ask how the pregnancy is going and things like that. I am just so in love with the name and can't find anything I like more, I've always liked it, way before she used it for her baby girl...I just feel like she's bet me to it and I have no other option but to chose another name. We're not close but have lots of mutual friends and I think people will just assume I've copied her Hmm what would you do in this situation, would you just try and find another name?

Ah crossed post.

If it is something really unusual and distinctive like Phaedra or Sheherezade I would have reservations, but something more widely used like Mia, Olivia or Isabelle I would go for it. But consider that you might really regret it if you choose a second best name.

EmilyStar · 21/08/2019 20:20

I’d probably use the name.
It doesn’t sound like your kids are likely to be going to the same baby groups, primary school etc from what you say.

I certainly wouldn’t be put off by mutual friends thinking you’re copying. It’s unlikely they’ll give a duplicated baby name more than 5 minutes thought.

Petrichor11 · 21/08/2019 20:20

Unless it’s a really unusually name I think you should just use it. Two of my school friends both have sons born a few months apart who the same name. As far as I know they’re not especially close anymore although were friends at school and are fb friends. The name is a popular one and they don’t live close to one another. It’s a nonissue.

31RueCambon · 21/08/2019 20:20

That's very popular and rising so if she thinks it is very unusual she is wrong.

You could use maria nn aria if you really cant face telling her that u have use thecsame name.

willlowthewisp · 21/08/2019 20:17

The name is Aria, I know it won't be to a lot of people's taste but I just love it. I suppose it is fairly uncommon which makes me feel even more scared to use itSad

I'd definitely use it.

flossiefloo · 21/08/2019 20:09

Ooh I’m dying to know the name now!
Use it, you’ll regret it if you don’t

Militantmartha · 21/08/2019 20:01

If you love it go for it. The fact that someone you know (who you're not even close to) has used it really doesn't matter.

user1493494961 · 21/08/2019 19:46

She doesn't sound a close friend, use the name you love.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 21/08/2019 19:43

Is it an unusual name? I think I’d use it if I really loved it. It sounds like someone you’d have lost touch with pre-Facebook days so you’d never have known her dds name.
