So there's only 1 name that I'm absolutely in love with for our baby girl. The only thing stopping me from using is the fact a friend from school (not a close friend but someone who I've had on Facebook for years and years) has used this name for their baby girl who is now 6months old.

Since I've been pregnant we've spoke a few times on Facebook and she always comments on my scan photos and statuses to do with the baby. From time to time we'll message and she'll ask how the pregnancy is going and things like that. I am just so in love with the name and can't find anything I like more, I've always liked it, way before she used it for her baby girl...I just feel like she's bet me to it and I have no other option but to chose another name. We're not close but have lots of mutual friends and I think people will just assume I've copied her Hmm what would you do in this situation, would you just try and find another name?

Is she one of these people who has 500 odd 'friends' on Facebook? If so, and if you don't really even know her, just de-friend or whatever and she probably won't even notice you've gone. Problem solved!

Sorry, feeling in a very pragmatic frame of mind this evening Grin

epari · 21/08/2019 22:33

Use it! If she throws a fit or does indirect status's "unfriend" you live in different city and aren't really friends so she's actually irrelevant x

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 21/08/2019 22:25

I don’t like it. There’s something of ‘the master race’ about it.

Do you like any other names, OP?

AverageMummy · 21/08/2019 22:21

Why not ask her? I found out someone avoided the name Clara after I had one, only we would never have minded at all.

Windydaysuponus · 21/08/2019 22:05

She is a Husky, chancing a nap in dcat's bed!

31RueCambon · 21/08/2019 21:06

GoT obviously

HeyMonkey · 21/08/2019 21:06

Aria is fine! It's not too outlandish at all, I know 3! 2 with an i and 1 with a y.

Go for it, it's not like you're going mad with something that would raise eyebrows. It's an established name now.

2017 started rising after pretty little liars and then risinh sharply after HOT

Gorgeous name, use it! In 20 years you probably won't even remember who this person is and would regret not using it.

willlowthewisp · 21/08/2019 20:58

I didn't know it was becoming more and more popular, I understand why it is though I think it's beautiful. I don't know any others, just her daughter. The fact it's getting more popular doesn't bother me, it makes me feel a little bit more comfortable about using it if anything. I agree with sending her a message first just to let her know, although I don't know how I'm going to pluck up the courage to do itBlush

I think I really would regret it if I didn't use it, we also live in different towns so definitely wouldn't be at the same school or anything. I know if someone who I knew decided to use the same name as my DS, I wouldn't be bothered and would take it more as a compliment.. maybe not if we were close but we are only Facebook friends, we hardly even spoke while at school together. I'm glad that most of you would go for it in my situation Smile

Alloftit · 21/08/2019 20:47

Ah that’s not a very uncommon name anymore, use it if you love it! It’s not like you and this other woman are super close.

Worrywart21 · 21/08/2019 20:34

I meet sooo many arias. It’s definitely not too unusual to be an issue. Definitely use it.

Colourfulest · 21/08/2019 20:33

Jellycat00 · 21/08/2019 20:33

There are three Aria's at my daughter's nursery! So it's rapidly gaining in popularity, if that bothers you.

If it were me I'd probably message her and say, "hey, i just wanted to give you a heads up that we're going to call our daughter Aria, as its the only name we've loved for a long time. Thanks heaps for being so interested in the pregnancy and everything! We should get our girls together sometime!"

georgialondon · 21/08/2019 20:33

It's not that unusual. If you really love it I'd use it.

Star801 · 21/08/2019 20:33

I had a feeling it was going to be Aria. There’s so many of them around recently!
I wouldn’t use the same name in this situation but that’s just me.

FernPotts · 21/08/2019 20:32

She’s lovely, Windy! What is she?

Colourfulest · 21/08/2019 20:31

There are loads of Aria's lately. I liked it but went off it once I realised how popular it was becoming

Go for it! If you want to you could always message her saying something like "BTW I absolutely love the name Aria, I've actually been planning on using it for my daughter for a while now! Just thought I'd give you a heads up incase you thought I was copying"

Windydaysuponus · 21/08/2019 20:30

This is my Aria....

Would you?
Littleduckeggblue · 21/08/2019 20:28

Of course you should use it. It's quite a popular name now since Game of Thrones

Howtotrainyourhamster · 21/08/2019 20:27

I think I personally wouldn’t as it would feel a bit less special. Also, in her position I think I’d feel a bit put out (and yes I know nobody owns a name) - but people can be a bit funny about baby names and not always rational (I include myself in this!)

Also, Aria is going to be the next rapidly rising name I think....

icecreamsundae32 · 21/08/2019 20:25

Also I've only come across 2 Arias age 5 and one age 1!

EmilyStar · 21/08/2019 20:24

Aria has rocketed in popularity in the last 10 years. It’s in the top 50 girls names in England and Wales in the last year there’s data for.

names.darkgreener.com/#aria

It’s not one that’s rare enough to worry about IMO.

icecreamsundae32 · 21/08/2019 20:24

I love Aria and wish I'd used it for my dd. People put me off it saying it's becoming too popular, it's too faddy etc. I'm not having any more babies so now resign myself to the fact I can't use it so I say if you love it use it!

WildCherryBlossom · 21/08/2019 20:23

I think I would use it in your situation.
