Elyse Rae for baby girl due 9th Sept.
We adore it but are open to your honest thoughts.

Thanks!

Dint get the thing about people putting Rae as a middle name, it's a bit odd. Elyse is fine.

PurpleDaisies · 20/08/2019 19:37

Rae is awful. I don’t like that spelling of Elise.

Yogagirl123 · 20/08/2019 19:36

Sorry about your brother OP. It’s a nice tribute, I thought the name was Elsie though on first glance. I love the name Elise, only known one little girl called that who was delightful. I like Rae too. Good luck.

PotteringAlong · 20/08/2019 19:35

Different first name, Ely as a middle name.

northernknickers · 20/08/2019 19:35

Elise is pretty (not with a 'y' though...lots of 'how do you say that?' and misspellings ahead I imagine!)

Rae...not keen (it's very American...are you in the USA OP?) The only female Rae I know uses Rae instead of her name...Raechel...as she hates the way that her name is spelt (again, a 'unique' spelling of a common enough name, that caused years of frustration!)

tabbiemoo · 20/08/2019 19:34

Prefer spelling of Elise but I understand why you’re using the y. Pretty name.
Really don’t like Rae though and don’t think it goes with Elyse.

IceRebel · 20/08/2019 19:33

You want brutally honest replies, so here goes.

I understand it's a tribute to your brother, but spelling it that way will give her a lifetime of mispronunciations and frustration. It might be a legitimate spelling, but it's not widely recognised, so people will assume you've made it up.

Personally I would say think of your daughter, and how much a pain this will be for her. Then choose Elise, or a different name entirely.

GrapefruitGin · 20/08/2019 19:32

Have to agree, I don’t like the spelling. It seems very ‘chavvy’ Blush. Elise however, is lovely.

TheFaerieQueene · 20/08/2019 19:31

It isn’t to my taste. Tbh I would use Ely as a middle name and find another first name. I think to use his correct name is a lovely tribute. Sorry for your loss.

Nonnymum · 20/08/2019 19:31

I think elyse is lovely. I'm not keen on Rae but that's just my taste. It's a perfectly acceptable name.

Lucafritz · 20/08/2019 19:30

Lose the Rae on the end of it its so low class and common imho gives the entirely wrong impression

mammiahailee · 20/08/2019 19:30

Yes I am worried that Rae is a ‘filler’ middle name although I like it

I’m another who read it as Elsie at first for some reason. Then realised it wasn’t but wasn't sure how how to pronounce . Not at all keen on Rae either to be honest.

mammiahailee · 20/08/2019 19:28

Elyse is pronounced E-leece, same as Elise.
The y spelling although is much less common, is not made up by me and is a valid spelling.
My brother who sadly passed away last year was Ely so it’s a little tribute to him, plus I really like the spelling.

Thanks all for feedback so far, I’d say we’re still kinda ‘set’ on it but it hasn’t had the ‘click’ quite yet, as it did with my other daughter’s name.

SummerInTheVillage · 20/08/2019 19:27

Spelt properly it would be lovely. But lose the Rae. Very 2000s

Teaandchocolatecake · 20/08/2019 19:27

I like Elise and am assuming that is the name you are intending? Don’t like the spelling you’ve chosen.

I don’t like Rae at all and I don’t think it goes with Elise either.

Sorry, you did ask!

Wilmalovescake · 20/08/2019 19:27

I read it as Elsie even after a second glance. So you might want to change the spelling...

Theflying19 · 20/08/2019 19:27

Read it as Elsie and the Ee-lize.

I can't see the point of quirky spelling for the sake of it. Kid has to spend whole life spelling it out to people.

Rae I could read, but she(presuming girl but could be wrong) will have to spell that out too.

crazycatgal · 20/08/2019 19:24

Elise is nice, I don't like the spelling that you have chosen. I also don't think that Rae 'goes' with it.

Veterinari · 20/08/2019 19:21

Agree it reads as Ee-lice
Definite teasing potential and a lifetime of spelling her name. Elise is lovely

LaDrem · 20/08/2019 19:17

Hate the spelling and hate the Rae.

Elise is such a pretty and delicate name, Rae is the opposite. I wouldn't put them together.

howu2 · 20/08/2019 19:17

Sounds like an ocular disease spelt that way. Other way with Rae is nice tho 👍

bridgetreilly · 20/08/2019 19:14

If you have decided, I wouldn't ask for people's thoughts. You like it, no one else's opinion matters.

pallisers · 20/08/2019 19:14

I prefer the Elise spelling (if you are pronouncing it like that) but the name is very pretty. I also like Elissa.

Sexnotgender · 20/08/2019 19:14

Elyse is not my taste. Ellis is nice.
