Thoughts on this name for a baby girl?
I like McKayla Rose

I don’t think the name is as bad as other posters suggest. I’m rather a traditionalist but realise younger mothers have other views and tastes in names.
How about Kayla. Does that do anything for you OP?
McKenzie seems to have been accepted generally as an ok name ( probably not by MN, though!
I just can’t see why the original meaning has to affect your choice. An awful lot of what are considered English names are adapted (mangled) versions of Hebrew, Greek names from the Hebrew and Ancient Greek names, Germanic names, Romance names etc etc. Genuinely old English names are nowadays regarded as too unpronounceable, too try hard or ugly to use.

My dad suggested the name Alana Michaela for one of my daughters names, apparently he'd suggested it for mine, my mum vetoed it. They're the female versions of his name. I like both individually but not together unfortunately

ChildminderMum · 22/08/2019 16:18

I would avoid the 'Mc' because the faux-surname thing is a bit odd. Michaela is fine though, or even Makayla or Mikayla.

poolblack · 22/08/2019 15:35

Imagine 20 years down the line one of these poor unfortunate McKaylas or McKenzies or McKennas marries someone with a Mc name.

Hmm
Frith2013 · 22/08/2019 15:34

Not great. McKayla loudhailer.

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/08/2019 15:33

Trashy reality shows are great, just don't name your kids after anyone in themGrin

OtraCosaMariposa · 22/08/2019 15:31

Imagine 20 years down the line one of these poor unfortunate McKaylas or McKenzies or McKennas marries someone with a Mc name.

They're awful. All of them. Michaela is a perfectly OK name.

augustagain · 22/08/2019 14:38

How about Kayla (not RFT though).

pumkinspicetime · 22/08/2019 14:37

Having said that, I suggest you watch some slightly more highbrow TV shows during your pregnancy.
Mind you this can go horribly wrong too. I read a book on American presidents and ended up with a ds called Theodore nn Teddy and you know how much Mumsnet loves that name!

poolblack · 22/08/2019 14:33

I'm not refusing to get to any point fgs. Just pointing out that you were wrong.

CassianAndor · 22/08/2019 13:41

OK, then, refusing-to-get-the-point poster, is it MickDonald's where you get your kids a Happy Meal? (wait to be told 'I don't ever buy my kids as happy Meal)

poolblack · 22/08/2019 13:09

Since when was Mc at the beginning of a name pronounced 'mick'? Old MickDonald had a farm?

Eh?

It's old MacDonald Confused

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/08/2019 09:23

The middle bit sounds different in my head as well — I'd have put two 'c' sounds in. For example, McKenna and McEnna don't sound quite the same.

CassianAndor · 22/08/2019 09:22

yes, I agree. Anyone who thinks they're pronounced the same is blind. Since when was Mc at the beginning of a name pronounced 'mick'? Old MickDonald had a farm? It's like saying Luna and Lena are the same name.

ChelseaCat · 22/08/2019 09:18

Horrible - don’t do it

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/08/2019 09:14

I wouldn't actually pronounce them the same! Is that just me?

McKayla would be MucKayla (with a very quick 'u'), whereas Michaela would have a very quick 'i'.

FairyDust92 · 22/08/2019 08:10

I don't like the name but that's my opinion. The way you have spelt it also looks like a last name

BayandBlonde · 22/08/2019 07:41

You said yourself, it's a name you've heard from a trashy tv programme.

Why would you give your daughter such a trashy name Confused

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/08/2019 07:37

Michaela is nice.

EugenesAxe · 22/08/2019 07:32

I also instantly thought along the lines of Princessfaffalot.

Mickelor is hilarious; these names just show me that people have poor grasp of standard phonetic rules. I know an Ema spelt like that... but always think of her as Eema.

HeadintheClouds brilliant comment.

Mechaela just sounds like a name that the people at Barbie might give to an engineer doll. I can’t agree that it’s pretty.

LynetteScavo · 22/08/2019 07:30

I'm going to go against the grain and say think you should call your child McKayla. Because naming your child after an American teen mom in a reality show is always a super idea Grin

I personally don't like the name or the spelling , but that's OK because it's not my child being named, and I actually don't think having a person in the world called McKayla will make it a worse place.

Having said that, I suggest you watch some slightly more highbrow TV shows during your pregnancy.

HeronLanyon · 22/08/2019 07:30

McKayla - don’t like it at all.
Michaela - better but not a name I like.
Re McCambridge - reminds me of Actress Mercedes McCambridge - was fascinated by that name when a child !

ThanosSavedMe · 22/08/2019 07:19

Please don’t. It will cause your dd no end of problems. Btw Michaela can also be pronounced Mick-eye-la

CassianAndor · 22/08/2019 07:08

Stock agreed, but those people are clearly educated middle class so they get a pass on lumbering their child with a daft name.

Frankly I’d go for McKayla any day of the week over Icarus.

Bouncingbelle · 22/08/2019 01:28

I like it but f8r your childs sake would at least spell it Mikayla
