Thanks so much for all of your replies- I do really like it! Think my biggest issue is finding a middle name to go with it now. Surname is 1 syllable so feel maybe a middle name should be longer for the contrast? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I really like it but would spell it the anglicised way if you're outside of Ireland. It's not wrong, just a variant.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 21/08/2019 13:12

I love it, but much prefer the Méabh spelling.

I think if you’re going with an Irish name, go all in and use the more authentic spelling.

Some friends named their daughter Maeve and while I was surprised by the name at first it has really grown on me and it suits her perfectly.

Vasya · 21/08/2019 12:23

I love it!

Frannibananni · 21/08/2019 10:55

There is a Maeve at my children's school. I think it's a lovely name.

Starshapeddreams · 21/08/2019 10:39

I LOVE Maeve!

It's a beautiful name, I know several ranging from primary school to early twenties.
Was a close second to what we called DD and is still on the list for any potential DD2.

AlbertWinestein · 21/08/2019 10:09

I clicked on the thread thinking it was quite pretty. But then I read the thread and all I can hear now is a Coronation Street style accent saying, “Oooh, Maaaaave,. D’you want a cuppa tea?!”

whywhywhy6 · 21/08/2019 07:01

Love it and love Mavis too!

Maeve Imogen

isabellerossignol · 21/08/2019 05:17

I think it's lovely. Most of the Maeves I know are primary school age so I don't think of it as old fashioned at all.

ShippingNews · 21/08/2019 05:12

My DGD is Maeve, I love it.

DulciUke · 21/08/2019 04:11

I think it is beautiful.

Bouncingbelle · 20/08/2019 23:26

16 years ago a friend named her baby Maeve and i thought it was one of the ugliest names imaginable. 6 mo ths ago another friend had a baby Maeve and i now think its absolutely gorgeous - classic but with something quite cool about it! Love it.

Tillygetsit · 20/08/2019 22:55

I think its lovely light and a bit fairy folk. Maeve Sylvie or Sylvie Maeve?

shakeyourteethout · 20/08/2019 21:22

I don’t think it’s frumpy or old-ladyish at all - most Maeve/Meabh/Meadhbh’s (my preferred spelling) that I know are in their late teens/early twenties.

Heh1991 · 20/08/2019 21:17

Hahahaha in light of your comment I suppose (sadly!) it is pronounced like your nan’s mate Mavis!

Youngandfree · 20/08/2019 21:17

Lovely name. For those asking it’s pronounced like ‘made’ but with a “v” instead of the “d”. My dd has a friend called Maeve, she’s 6. A classic, simple yet beautiful name.

missmouse101 · 20/08/2019 21:17

It's ok, but Mave sounds very old ladyish, like Beryl, Doreen etc!

31RueCambon · 20/08/2019 21:15

Im not hearing the frump at all.

It isnt Mavis!!

TatianaLarina · 20/08/2019 21:14

I like in mythology, in real life it’s Uber frumpy.

I like Mabli though.

Heh1991 · 20/08/2019 21:14

I can imagine that’s so annoying! What name did you go for in the end?

OP posts:
Heh1991 · 20/08/2019 21:12

May-v (to rhyme with brave/save etc...I think!)

Heh1991 · 20/08/2019 21:09

Hey it’s pronounced like “save/brave etc” may-v - what do you think?
