If choosing a name in a couple isn't hard enough! Me and ex have recently split we have Ds together (Ellis) and I'm pregnant with Dd. We've finally agreed on a few names we both like, but he's got his preferences and I've got mine.

Me:
Betsy ( I'd quite like Elizabeth and shorten it but ex won't)
Matilda (Tilly(
Nelly (ex might consider Eleanor and shorten it)

Ex:
Annie
Georgie
Evie

Open to other suggestions but we've been through the baby book a hundred times and we've struggled to agree on these.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know an Annushka nn Annie. I do like Annabel Matilda too. Good luck finding a compromise

IggyAce · 18/08/2019 17:58

I know a Matilda her nn is Tilda.
How about Adaline could be shortened to Addy or Annie.

whattodowith · 18/08/2019 17:50

I’m Eleanor and nobody has ever called me Nelly, I’ve had Elle or Ellie a lot. I think you would have to push for the NN Nelly to happen, it’s not a natural diminutive of Eleanor imo.

Antonin · 18/08/2019 17:42

Annabel. Will give your daughter more options in later life

PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 17:04

I agree with Georgie for a boy. And Betsy is my favourite too @AmyMaria2. Probably ex's least favourite though. Annie has definitely grown on me and I'm thinking I could get him to agree to Annabel on bc, we'd just use known as Annie at school, gp etc.

I like Georgie for a boy, not really a girl.

Betsy is my favourite! Goes with ds name as well x

PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 17:00

Tessa/Tess was actually my favourite girls name @Untamedtoad.
I was hoping before we spilt up that if we had a girl and he'd just seen me go through all that pain he wouldn't refuse me.
Don't think it will work now.

Annie is beautiful, as is Matilda/Tilly Madeleine (Maddie) also has a similar vibe which might work for you both? Also Tess/Tessa, Florence (NN Flo), Delilah (NN Lilah/Lilly), Penny/Penelope, Harriet (NNs Hattie/Harri) Bonnie, Polly are lovely names with a similar vibe to the ones you've listed. Good luck choosing, it's never easy!

Can't decide on a middle name for Matilda and think ex will definitely call her Matty. But we'd use Matilda at school etc, so I'm not sure nickname matters so much. I was just thinking Matty Matthews is a bit...

I do prefer that spelling @PrincessLouis. My phone just autocorrects to Annabelle.
Spoke to ex when he dropped our Ds off and we've agreed it's between Annie (maybe Annabel, he was wavering a bit then he remembered the film) and Matilda.

PrincessLouis · 18/08/2019 15:56

Maybe Annabel is less likely to be called Belle than Annabelle?

What about Anne or Anna nn Annie?

Annie Matthews is 😍😍😍

PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 14:13

I think the lise part of Annalise is too similar sounding to Ellis. Don't really want a full name we never use and not keen on any of the other Annie names, just Annabelle.
Ex won't have that though.

AverageMummy · 18/08/2019 13:57

Rosanne Marianne

NewName54321 · 18/08/2019 13:38

Do you like any other names that could give the Annie shortening? (Suzanna, Diana, Roxanne, Antonia, Anna-Marie).

Eleanor is lovely, but not Nellie ('"not on your Nelly", or Nellie Olsen the nasty girl in Little House on the Prairie).

AverageMummy · 18/08/2019 13:26

Annalise is a beautiful alternative to Annabel

PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 13:24

Or Matilda Anna

AverageMummy · 18/08/2019 13:24

Annie & Matilda are both really beautiful

If both of you think they are both nice & happy with either, perhaps you need to meet & throw a dice

PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 12:34

I tend to agree @stucknoue. On full names on bc, but equally wouldn't want a name on that I'm not happy to call them. If that makes sense.
I don't think Annie is so bad on bc as I don't think it's too nickname sounding.

I do like that @Atlasta.
He's going to be so fucking smug if we go with his name.

OP posts:
Atlasta · 18/08/2019 11:54

Annie Matilda Matthews- beautiful.

stucknoue · 18/08/2019 11:51

Ps a bit outing but my name was never shortened to Bella

Troels · 18/08/2019 11:49

Matilda Anne is nice. Her initials would be MAM.

stucknoue · 18/08/2019 11:48

I like his but I strongly believe people should put full names on the birth certificate - when applying for jobs it matters

Littlechocola · 18/08/2019 11:47

Annie Matthews is gorgeous!

PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 11:46

Annie and Matilda seem to be the two we both agree most closely on. Annie's top of his names for me and Matilda top of mine for him.

So maybe we have to just decide between those two!
Surname is Matthews, was thinking it would be identifying to say but I've name changed anyway and it's hard to decide first names without it, isn't it!

OP posts:
PeachBeach · 18/08/2019 11:41

He doesn't see the point of Georgia instead of Georgie as it's one letter different and same length. Georgie is probably my least favourite too, I actually prefer it for a boy.
He said he doesn't like Evelyn as it sounds too old fashioned, that's his response to Elizabeth too.

I prefer Eleanor but could mention Elena to him @Weenurse.
