Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

Euphemia. Everyone else thinks it's completely awful.

Cohle · 22/08/2019 17:29

Malachi

I just love the sound of it. DH was Hmm though.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 22/08/2019 17:25

Atticus
Abraham

Still quite tempted if we had another boy(s) but not sure I'd be brave enough.

WillaDaPeephole · 22/08/2019 17:19

I love Winter for a girl, but it really doesn’t work with our surname.

lottieleo · 22/08/2019 17:14

Not horrendous quirky but Sunday for a boy

My husbands Nigerian and said back home Sunday is a old mans name so it would be like using the name Keith pft

CatoftheMilkyWay · 22/08/2019 17:05

Wow I have never actually heard of anyone using it, that’s great! Pretty sure DH would have vetoed it if I had suggested it anyway Hmm

TatianaLarina · 22/08/2019 16:50

I love Briar, it’s my daughter’s middle name. No-one has misread it as Brian actually.

OccasionalNachos · 22/08/2019 14:00

Ariadne. Doesn’t work for a girl from Yorkshire 😂

CatoftheMilkyWay · 22/08/2019 13:57

I love Briar (as in Briar Rose, the Scottish version of Sleeping Beauty) for a girl but couldn’t ever use it as I just know everyone would misread it as Brian

dw23 · 22/08/2019 11:26

Adora 😅

ColdCottage · 22/08/2019 00:16

I liked Gulliver and Darwin. DH was a hard no on both.

halulat · 21/08/2019 19:16

Scarlett - both gramdmas pulled a face
Efetobore - Dh's suggestion for ds. Now our dogs name...

SeaViewBliss · 21/08/2019 17:42

Nash. I have always loved it. DH vetoed it so I’m using for a character on my book instead!!!

Marty93 · 21/08/2019 17:34

OH vetoed Wren for me. Love it. Not even that quirky IMO... 😔

theruffles · 21/08/2019 15:46

I love Etoile which is 'star' in French. I don't think I could use it as a name but I do think it's pretty.

Greengreen88 · 21/08/2019 12:54

Libbylove2015 - good luck!!! How exciting! Dana’s a great name!

I’m totally loving all these.

On the teacher thing - I did work experience at a school when I was at university (considered a PGCE) and, in the staffroom, one or two of the teachers ripped into the kids - gossiping about them and their home life - and their names. I left thinking what a horrible bunch - but (only know this after looking back), it was a pretty crap school so the teachers were probably unhappy in their jobs there. (I also got told off for using my regional accent around the kids AngryEnvy) this was 20 years ago. And right put me off teaching. (I sort of wish it hadn’t now!)

So many beautiful names on here though!

Helnono that’s good to hear that there is another one - In our case it was a kind of tribute to the awesome Fox Mulder!

I’m being induced with a girl today - my parents say they will disinherit me if we call her Dana!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 20/08/2019 18:10

Silas
Linus
Cornelius
Amos

Ramone
Greta

Ohyesiam · 20/08/2019 17:58

I loved Scarlet, which isn’t out there, but I thought it was a very vivacious name and thought that if she turned out to be a shy nervous wallflower would be quite a name to live up to. I also realised it was what I wanted to be calledBlush.

Hoppinggreen · 20/08/2019 17:51

stay DDs best mate is called Saoirse!

womaninthedark · 20/08/2019 17:47

Ragan or Regan, during the Ronald Reagan era.

CarolDanvers · 20/08/2019 17:45

Fleur.

Amethyst.

stayathomer · 20/08/2019 17:44

Donnacha for a boy, and Saoirse for a girl
