Hazel or Iris?

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and think this one is a girl (have two boys already). We have finally settled, I think, on Hazel or Iris for a name - which do you prefer? Both go equally with the surname.

If you hate both there's not much point replying unless you've got a brilliant alternative suggestion, we've been through every name out there it feels like!

If you're undecided, wait to see which suits her best.

SallyWD · 16/08/2019 18:32

Iris is really beautiful. I'm not too keen on Hazel

user1493494961 · 16/08/2019 18:30

Iris.

MikeUniformMike · 16/08/2019 18:27

Hazel

daisypond · 16/08/2019 17:50

Iris. Hazel is very dated and frumpy to me.

Bluebellssnowbells · 16/08/2019 17:01

Hazel is a bit sexworker
Honestly and truly one of the most bullshit things I have ever read in my life. What the fuck.

Bluebellssnowbells · 16/08/2019 17:00

Hazel by a country mile

mistermagpie · 16/08/2019 16:42

A bit 'sexworker'?! Bloody hell.

TatianaLarina · 16/08/2019 16:32

Hazel is a bit sexworker.

MerryDeath · 16/08/2019 15:33

i really like Hazel. i know a Hazel and she's very, very cool.

but Iris is ok you could do worse!

chickenoodlesoup · 16/08/2019 15:28

Hazel!!!

joystir59 · 16/08/2019 15:27

Iris Catherine is absolutely lovely imo

mistermagpie · 16/08/2019 15:24

We thought about Rowan but it's w bit too unisex and me and DH couldn't agree on a pronunciation - row to rhyme with cow, or row to rhyme with dough?

She will very likely have blonde hair and blue eyes (the boys both do) so I'm not sure if Hazel doesn't sit right?

Ooh a bit of a mixed bag then! That's how I feel, sort of stuck in the middle of both names.

Both very nice but I prefer Hazel - lovely sound imo and has a nice warm, mellow, autumnal feel to it. Iris is also getting quite popular (#81 last year) so possibly more likely to date.

StarlingsInSummer · 16/08/2019 14:15

I prefer Hazel, but what do you think about Rowan?

IsobelRae23 · 16/08/2019 14:14

Not a fan of either. Although I know a lovely 18 year old Iris and a witch of aunt named Hazel- she’s 85. So maybe that clouds my judgment.

KateUrrer · 16/08/2019 13:35

I much prefer Iris.

Mammyloveswine · 16/08/2019 12:30

Love Iris... not a fan of hazel at all!

PetraRabbit · 16/08/2019 12:21

Hazel! Especially as she'd be an autumn baby. Hazel Catherine is lovely.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 16/08/2019 12:14

Hazel is lovely

BigusBumus · 16/08/2019 12:13

Hazel! Deffo. (iris is lovely though, maybe for your next girl? Wink

RedCowboyBoots · 16/08/2019 12:11

Also , the iris gives the eye its colour, so naming your kid Hazel Iris would basically be like naming them Ginger Eyelashes.

RedCowboyBoots · 16/08/2019 12:00

Hazel. I associate iris with the eye part more than the flower/colour, so to me it's like naming your kid cornea.
