there are a 'unisex' names such as Innes, Aubrey and Ashley which in my opinion are girls names, so it's not a new thing.“
Those aren’t “unisex” names. They are boy’s names which girls are “allowed” to use.
Unless you mean Inez, which is a different name to Innes.

@BertrandRussell, I agree. Ridiculous. My friend was horrified when someone thought her boy was a girl. I shrugged, my baby girl having already been mis-sexed.
Heaven forbid that a boy be thought of as just a girl.
Unfortunately a boy with a "girl's" name would be bullied.

Alex was/is a favourite of mine for a girl.

For those asking why you'd call a girl a boys name but not the other way around, there are a 'unisex' names such as Innes, Aubrey and Ashley which in my opinion are girls names, so it's not a new thing.

It's believe it's also been proven that girls with male sounding names tend to be more successful in terms of academics and careers, which is sad but its the world we live in.

BigFatLiar · 14/08/2019 09:11

Lesley, Alex, Sandy, Joe, Fred

Lots of names (or shortened versions can be unisex)

jpclarke · 14/08/2019 08:54

Charlie, Jodi, Jo

@BertrandRusell probably because it is insulting to be thought of as a girl but not insulting to be thought of us a boy”
Exactly. So why perpetuate it?

whatausername · 14/08/2019 08:47

@BertrandRusell probably because it is insulting to be thought of as a girl but not insulting to be thought of us a boy. It's like how we can wear jeans and shirts but Heaven forbid a man wears a skirt and blouse.

KatnissK my step-daughter was obsessed with PLL so I started watching it to and I think I now love Spencer for a girl because of that show.

FernPotts · 14/08/2019 08:44

I haven’t heard of a male Jane, but there have been several historical blokes called Anne or Anna.

tripletmum8 · 14/08/2019 08:44

For some reason I absolutely love Logan. There’s also:
Stevie
Blake
Ellis
Eden
Rowan
James as a middle name
Alberta
Spencer
Riley
Robyn
Hayden

BertrandRussell · 14/08/2019 08:39

Please can someone explain why they would call their girl James but they would not call their boy Jane.

whattodo2019 · 14/08/2019 08:38

Tomasina- Tommy is my favourite

Widgetsframe · 14/08/2019 08:36

Actually I love Alberta too!

Widgetsframe · 14/08/2019 08:36

Teri,
Toni (Antonia),
Raffy

Xraydog · 14/08/2019 08:33

Riley
Robyn

userabcname · 14/08/2019 08:30

Spencer! Love this but may well be because I'm a huge Pretty Little Liars fan and one of the females is called Spencer.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2019 08:29

Morgan. Logan. Rowan. Helena (Leni)
Shay. Reagan.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2019 08:27

Stevie Stevens is fab.
I went to school with a Donna Donnelly.

miamiibiza · 14/08/2019 08:25

Frankie

Rarfy · 14/08/2019 08:23

Ah yes Stevie Stevens would be pretty funny!

Judging by some of the previous comments this will go down like a lead balloon but I quite like Jordan, there was a Jordan in the MAU when dd was delivered and I liked that it stood out but wasn't ridiculous iyswim.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2019 08:22

Lee (Leigh)
Ashley
Taylor
Frances
Nicole (Nicky)
James
Andrea (Andi)
Louise (Louie)
Danielle (Danni)
Lesley (probs more for a girl in any case, though.)

BertrandRussell · 14/08/2019 08:22

Only if tou’re Happy to call a boy Annabelle.

Tstevens · 14/08/2019 08:20

James is becoming popular for girls.
My daughter has a traditional female name but still could be mistaken for a boy unless she was wearing head to toe pink. People just make a random guess and hope they haven't offended you.

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/08/2019 08:08

Billie, Bobbie and Jaime are all girls names. I’m sure someone will have a go at me for saying this but I think they’re all quite chavvy names, though Bobbie as a nickname for Roberta as it’s meant to be would be alright.
Georgie is a nickname not a name, at least go with Georgia or Georgina and use a nickname.
