My DS has a name that that has been offered as an alternative by a several people on this thread, it is a "normal", "ordinary" "classic" "biblical" "boring" "dull" (insert as per your view) name and he is the only one in his year at school. There is 1 other of the name in the 2 form of entry primary (so 14 classes). Many of the "unusual" "modern" "trendy" "unique" "made-up sounding" (insert as per your view) names are known as Bear B and Honey T because they are the names that are repeated in the year. The only repeated name in my DSs class was number 50 something in popularity the year they were born so looking outside of the top 50 doesn't guarantee that your child will be the only one. Choose a name you love, make sure its not the name of a serial killer and that it doesn't give rude initials and go for it. No name will be loved by everyone. There is a much wider pool of names used now so even the number one name isn't likely to four in the class like the Claires and Stephens when I was at school.

They are all nice but very popular where I live

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 14/08/2019 23:03

Love them all. Classic, timeless and classy names!

Flowerspowersy · 14/08/2019 22:04

Also someone might think ‘boring play it safe’ but going for something really unusual as is the current fashion says the opposite to some ‘desperate to be noticed’.

More like 'desperate to find a name that identifies you without having to add a surname initial and that doesn't sound dated in a few years time'

No matter what name you choose it’ll have negative connotations to some.

AverageMummy · 14/08/2019 18:14

William and George are lovely classics
I really don’t like Grace but not sure why

Similar style names that I love:
Edward
Benjamin
Lucy
Clara

Flowerspowersy · 14/08/2019 14:49

They are all three quite boring because they're so common. In addition I dislike the Willi part of William.

There are SO many names to choose from!

Vivi890 · 14/08/2019 12:29

I really don’t like William or George. They make me think of rosy cheeked chubby baby faced men. Like a Boris Johnson type - posh but no amount of money could make them appealing. Grace sounds nice if popularity doesn’t worry you.

daisypond · 14/08/2019 07:40

I like Grace and William a lot. Both are timeless classic names. And nor do I know loads of either. A couple of each in their 20s. No one younger at all. I’m not keen on George. I don’t know why. It has a bit of a stodgy image to me. Hope and Honor are similar to Grace. I also think Mary, Jane, Margaret are good and fresh while still being classic. Frances? Elizabeth, Eleanor and Beatrice are great too. For boys, Edward, Ribert, Charles, Richard, or New Testament classics like Peter, Michael, John, etc. Old Testament names for boys have been in fashion for 20 years and will date soon, so I’d avoid those.

Courtney555 · 13/08/2019 22:40

William and George are lovely and classic.

Grace however I don't agree. Really dull and bland. Can't offer another alternative that I can think as similar off the top of my head.

georgialondon · 13/08/2019 22:35

I like all three.

Harvey3 · 13/08/2019 22:32

I like them - nothing wrong with classic names, they've stood the test of time for a reason! Some of the 'more exciting' names on here will go out of fashion soon IMO. Stick with what you like!

FeeFee832 · 13/08/2019 22:30

Thank you @PrincessLouis

I love your suggestions. I'm not sure why people are so unnecessarily mean about the names. 🙈

@FeeFee832 You are getting a lot of jip on this thread really unnecessarily. Most people choose normal names, that’s why they’re normal! You asked for classic options not a slating for liking classic names!

Grace or Elizabeth Grace are both great. Also maybe Anna (think this means grace), Mary, Eliza (could be a nickname for Elizabeth), Nina, Lucy, Holly, Rose, Alexandra, Alice, Charlotte, Jane?

For boys, William and George are both great. Other options Charles, John, Andrew, Thomas, Samuel, Benjamin?

Good luck Flowers

missmouse101 · 13/08/2019 21:51

Rosalind, Emerald, Antonia, Hazel, Faith
Sebastian, Casper, Dominic, Adam, Matthew

Yes, I do have children OP. Choose the names you love! Other people's opinions don't matter.

NobleRot · 13/08/2019 21:38

I’m with the people who think these are dull, wallpaper names. But I assume that’s what you want when you say you ‘only like classic names’?

FeeFee832 · 13/08/2019 21:34

@Alloftit I'm ok with nicknames. You can't stop them! 🙈

FeeFee832 · 13/08/2019 21:33

What would your suggestions be? Do you have children?

Alloftit · 13/08/2019 21:26

Elizabeth Grace is pretty. Lots of nickname potential tho, good thing or a bad thing in your eyes?

Theonewiththeblonde · 13/08/2019 20:41

I like Elizabeth, Alice, Flora and Atticus OP!

missmouse101 · 13/08/2019 20:32

All 3 utterly boring, uninspired and extremely common! Do you really want the dreariest names?

FeeFee832 · 13/08/2019 20:25

@Alloftit Lol, it's only annoying when people don't give alternative suggestions. I absolutely love all those girls names. Really pretty and classic.

I love Elizabeth, Flora and Alice! Great suggestions!

Maybe Elizabeth Grace? Grace as a middle name.

daisypond · 13/08/2019 19:53

They are very boring normal names with no personality - I know a Grace and George- both are in their late 20s. They were unusual names for babies in the early to mid ‘90s. Not boring or normal at all. Ahead of the curve.

Alloftit · 13/08/2019 19:50

If you don’t want something mega common tho, Archie is probably not a great idea, what with Harry and Meghans baby

Alloftit · 13/08/2019 19:49

I don’t really like grace, if I’m honest. It’s just a bit bland imo. I feel like you’re going to be a bit spikey about that opinion tho 😂 Beatrice, Elizabeth, Flora, Emma, Anna, Alice, Rose, are all a similar feel (to me!).
I love William and George tho.
