Lola Jane

Changedname81 · 12/08/2019 20:13

Friend who is non mums-netter has asked me to post this and send replies to her.

Her thoughts are that Lola has (likely) been and had its day - yet it’s still the name she’s liked most for the past five or six years... in your opinion, is it too dated already or still acceptable to use?

Lola Jane would be the full name. Half sister is Polly and is five (if that makes a difference?)

She loves both the Kinks song and the Manilow song so those don’t have negative connotations for her ...

Comments gratefully received Grin

Also I think the Kinks song is awesome and don’t see why it’s a negative connotation unless people have some rather unpleasant prejudices - I think the kinks song is a plus, not a negative! Lola is really cool - it’s vintage but in a kind of feisty way, makes me think of a cool 1960s mod girl or a young pretty fierce punk girl! Jane gives it a nice fresh feel - Lola is more feisty while Jane is more traditional and sweet. I’d go for it!

Vivi890 · 15/08/2019 09:36

Polly and Lola sound amazing together!

Changedname81 · 14/08/2019 21:56

Okurrrrrr you might be the only one as her name was Lolo Wink

Thanks for your comments on Polly - she’s not my friends DD but Lola will be her sister (same dad) Grin

Thanks for the remainder comments

I think it's lovely

Okurrrrrrrr · 14/08/2019 18:59

All I think of whenever I hear Lola is that Lola Ferrari porn star off Eurotrash - I can't be the only one? It's hard for me to separate the name from her so I can't really 'hear' it anymore if that makes sense.
Polly is great so tell her great choice there! (May be biased -32 year old Polly here Grin

mondler · 14/08/2019 18:56

I know a Lola who is 7 months old. Also know 3 dogs with the name. If she likes it go for it.

Poetryinaction · 14/08/2019 18:34

Lola is short for Dolores meaning pain.

daisypond · 14/08/2019 18:09

Hm, not sure. Lola is too nicknamey for my taste but Lola Jane does sound nice. I know a Lola that is short for Eloise, though Dolores is traditional. I love Jane- it’s very fresh.

PetraRabbit · 14/08/2019 17:56

I tend to ignore whether a name is featured in a song but I do think Lola is a bit babyish for an adult. It's short for Dolores but maybe there's another longer version she could be given. I also think Lola Jane is the very typical kind of brand name people give boutiques, nail files, some kind of own-brand perfume range for teens, that type of thing....but if she likes it it'll fit in well with the current generation of slightly cutesy names.

Changedname81 · 14/08/2019 17:33

She’s at a certain point in her life where transvestites and “show girls” aren’t offensive to her Grin

Thanks for your comments all the same

Lola by The Kinks
Copacabana by Barry Manilow

Not exactly good connotations.

whattodowith · 14/08/2019 15:55

Lola has some fairly poor musical connotations, I’ve never been a fan of it.

Antonin · 13/08/2019 14:26

Not my choice but it does grow on one as a previous poster says.
Goes well with Jane and goes nicely with Polly.
All in all a good choice

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 13/08/2019 13:24

Lola is an awful name, in my opinion. I like Jane though.

TildaTurnip · 12/08/2019 23:54

I’m not overly keen but I do like Jane!

Sophronia · 12/08/2019 23:48

I’m not keen on Lola. It does go quite well with Polly though.

Untamedtoad · 12/08/2019 23:00

Lola is a beautiful name, suits a baby, child and adult perfectly well, and Jane as a middle name flows nicely and is a wonderful way to honour her mum. The fact Lola isn't as used as it used to be, is only a good thing as means shes unlikely to be one of five in her class! (Although I do know of two Lola's born in the last year so equally wouldn't consider it as dated) Lola Jane, lovely.

cookie1991 · 12/08/2019 22:21

Love it! Such a pretty name

I came into the thread to say it was too overly sweet for me but in the time it has taken me to read the other replies it has grown on me. Lola Jane. Nice.

SoftBlocks · 12/08/2019 22:12

Love Jane, not keen on Lola.
