Hello - due November and the only name OH & I love is Theodore (we will call him Theo). I’m worried this name is becoming increasingly popular - does this matter? Are there any other names similar to this that I can tempt him with?

Thank you!

Theodore/Theo/Teddy is the most popular boys name in my area (SW) easily. But if you like it then go for it! There is no point going for a name you like less just because it’s less popular.

I have a Theodore, who is 4. Not hugely popular in our area, even less as I call him Teddy. I love love love his name. I don't understand people who say it will fall out of fashion, I think it's a pretty classic solid name. I hate modern boys names such as Jaxon etc though.

I love Theo, so am saying just go for it!

If you wanted similar(ish) alternatives, though:

Leo
Hugo
Rory
Cosmo

Popular names are popular because they’re nice!

Until they fall out of fashion Grin

Yes, very fashionable name currently. He may well be one of several in his school, at work later in life etc. It will probably fall out of fashion at some point and start to sound dated.

Personally I'd choose another name, there are so many lovely classics outside the top 100.

I know 2, both are 3

It's a lovely name, if you like it, go for it

I don't think it's becoming more popular, but it has been very popular for a few years now. I know several young ones.

Thank you for replying, can I ask which area you are in and how long ago that was?

I have an almost 16 year old Theodore, known as Theo. When we chose it, it was well outside the top 100 names and people commented on how unusual it was. Those were the days.... Grin

BlodwynBludd · 08/08/2019 07:08

When I had ds (2) on my ward of 6, 3 were called Theodore!

userabcname · 08/08/2019 07:07

It doesn't matter if you love it! It is popular in my area certainly.

Mummaofmytribe · 08/08/2019 07:05

I have a GC Theodore (Theo to most). It's a beautiful name IMO

TixieLix · 08/08/2019 07:03

I know a 3 month old Theo. I think it is getting popular again but if you like it then go for it.
