Elowen or Dulcie?

I am expecting a baby girl very soon, dh and I cannot decide wether to name her Elowen or Dulcie.
As you can gather, we love unique names as we don't want her to start school and have other children with the same name.
We also haven't decided on a middle name either so any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you

Elowen is awful. Dulcie is lovely.

goingdownsouth · 08/08/2019 14:57

Dulce is pretty
Elowen is going to be pronounced L O N ( el oh en) so it doesn't work for me.

toadabode · 08/08/2019 14:47

I don't like either name but would choose Elowen if I had a gun to my head

Kokeshi123 · 08/08/2019 14:44

Dulcie is quite nice.

If you want a name that stands out, bear in mind that when you add together all the girls called Ellie, Ella, Elle, Eloise, Elodie, Elsie, Elise, Elissa, Elina, Eleanor, Ellen, Eliza etc. a really high percentage of girls basically have names beginning with "El~" at the moment. After a while they all kind of sound the same.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 08/08/2019 14:04

So the W is silent? That sounds much better then! Still prefer Dulcie though but El-OH-en is very nice.

Aozora13 · 08/08/2019 13:57

I’ve never heard Elowen before, it’s beautiful.

midsomermurderess · 08/08/2019 13:54

the emphasis is on the 'oh', el-OH-en

LoafofSellotape · 08/08/2019 13:29

How's Elowen pronounced?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 08/08/2019 13:24

In the minority but much prefer Dulcie! Elowen I dislike as the W with the O and E just doesn't come so naturally to the tongue me. But its just me!

RubHimSweetly · 08/08/2019 13:10

Is it pronounced Ell-OH-en? Pretty.

ZebraKid71 · 08/08/2019 12:46

Elowen was our number 1 choice for our youngest but he was a boy. I love it.

Really dislike Dulcie.

Elowen

daisypond · 08/08/2019 07:55

Elowen. Not keen on Dulcie.

Astronica · 08/08/2019 04:21

Elowen is beautiful. Elowen Dulcie makes a nice combination.

Sophronia · 08/08/2019 00:38

Elowen

hideyho · 07/08/2019 23:03

Elowen sounds a bit too much like “alone” to me. And Dulcie sounds like “dulse” (seaweed).

Flicketyflack · 07/08/2019 22:54

Ironically when my dd started Secondary school there were lots of children who had 'unique' names & yet her 'plain' name made her the only one in her school of 800 kids 😊

Jamhandprints · 07/08/2019 22:54

Elowen sounds like an Elf, Dulcie means sweet, as in pudding...but I think I prefer Dulcie. Phone auto corrected to Sylvie. I like that best!

HerRoyalNotness · 07/08/2019 22:50

Elowen

We almost went with that, it’s beautiful

ThisLittlePiggyWentTo · 07/08/2019 22:50

Sent too soon. Basically I think it's more popular than you perhaps realise. Also second the dull bit - just sounds awful.

Other name is nice.

Dulcie isn't unique. I know 3, ranging from teen to baby.

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2019 22:48

Elowen is gorgeous.

Dulcie is hideous.

Tillygetsit · 07/08/2019 22:47

Elowen is lovely. Why not Eliwen Dulcie?
