Names you just don’t understand the hype for?

(Thread isn’t meant to offend anyone - MN hates my Dd and Ds names anyway!)

For me it would have to be Cordelia and Juniper.

Ah sorry @zvjezdica it was me who said I don’t like Arietty, I actually think Arietta is much nicer - it’s the ‘etty’ sound that I’m not keen on. Interestingly the morning after I posted that I met a cute little Arietty and I didn’t think twice about it - it’s just her name, I wouldn’t choose it but I could tell little Arietty’s mother didn’t think much of my daughter’s name either Grin

I know a 50 year old Arlo.

My pet hate is the old man/lady names but I'd live with them all if we could just get rid of Arthur.

I've seen variations of my name 3 times (although one was someone saying they love it - thanks @ThatCurlyGirl, although I'm an Arietta not an Ariette), I never see my name or Arrietty, which I'm mistakenly called all the time, on Mumsnet so I'm not sure if I should feel excited that my name (well, almost my name, variations on it anyway) popped up or sad that it's on what's essentially a name hate thread Blush

Anyway, I don't get Elsie, I keep seeing it on here and I'm not a fan at all. It's used as a mocking nickname for an unpopular politician where I live so maybe that's why. Also, Ottilie keeps popping up and it reminds me of otters. No offence to anyone!

Florence, Isla, Amelia (though I think it's a nice name but overused) and anything Ellie/Ella. I'm not keen on shortened names, e.g. Freddie, Teddy, Reggie and the like. Just use the long version and shorten for a nickname.

I'm also not a fan of things spelled in an unusual way, e.g. Jaxon.

Any of the Eve (Eva,Evelyn,Ava) or Ellie (Ella, Elouise, Elouise) as so overused and dull. How anyone can think such a dull over used name is the perfect one for their precious newborn I just can’t understand

Yes, the popularity of Jack has always surprised me a little. Nobody would have ever used it as a given name in previous generations. It was a 'nickname'. It's a bit as if the time was ripe for a comeback of John but for some reason people collectively decided John was too fusty or something.

Elsie also leaves me cold, but seems to be loved on here.

Yep don’t understand why so many use the name Jack. I struggled most with naming my son exdp hated all the names I liked
It took us 3 weeks to agree (wish I’d gone with my choice now!)

Didn’t struggle with naming my daughter. There are so many lovely girls names.

Aurora.

It’s the only name I can’t stand and it seems to pop up as a suggestion in every single thread. It sounds awful and I find it so hard to say. It’s like I’m just going “roaroaroar”. Imagine being called Aurora if you were unable to pronounce the letter R.

I'm not aware of any hype surrounding names, but there are names that often get a rapturous reception on MN that I personally can't stand. Margot. Ottilie. Nina.

Can't think of a single bit of hype I've witnessed surrounding Juniper or Cordelia.

I would have to say Eva / Ava... fail to see how they've become so popular when they're so boring.

Also never understood how Jack makes the most popular name lists year after year
