Thank you so much all
@troppibambini I’m a fellow Manc although been living in Suffolk for 10 years now, so my accent has faded a bit. My name is Paisley and it absolutely fascinated my southern boyfriend at the time how my family and friends up there pronounce it paezz-leh (hard to type how it’s pronounced) haha.

An-eye-ees. I think the perfume advert pronounced it An-eye-ees.

Caribbeanescape · 04/08/2019 11:03

I think an-ay-ees or an-eye-ees, with a soft s sound like fleece.

Pixilicious · 04/08/2019 11:02

Advert says it correctly

NiLunNiLautre · 04/08/2019 10:57

The advert pronounced it correctly (ie Ann eye ees). I remember this as I liked the perfume and called it Anay Anay, and was surprised to hear it pronounced as it was in the ad.

If you’re going to use a foreign name, make sure you pronounce it correctly if it has accents.

Star801 · 04/08/2019 10:56

an-eye-eese, as in Reese this one!

ChildminderMum · 04/08/2019 10:56

S not Z

troppibambini · 04/08/2019 10:56

Like reese.
An eye eese.
I do know one but her mum calls her an A. In a strong Manc accent.
(Before anyone jumps on my I'm not taking the mick im from Manchester too)

papit · 04/08/2019 10:53

Thanks all, okay stupid stupid question:

Like naïve

EL8888 · 04/08/2019 10:38

I thought A-Nay. But l could well be wrong....

Pippilangstrumpfi · 04/08/2019 10:36

The dots on the i make it an ee sound

Pippilangstrumpfi · 04/08/2019 10:35

An eye eese

Millipedewithherfeetup · 04/08/2019 10:28

I've always pronounced it Anne nay

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/08/2019 10:25

The perfume wasn’t Anay Anay though. I think the last time we had this thread someone linked to the ads and it wasn’t pronounced ‘anay’. It seems to be one of those things that everyone misremembers.

An-eye- ees - with a strong final 's' like fleece not flea.

EggysMom · 04/08/2019 10:19

There was an advert for the perfume back in the 80s which pronounced it Anay (perfume was 'Anay Anay'). I think that contributed to a lot of mixed pronunciation. Personally I think it's Ann-eye-ees, as someone else said, a bit like naive.

Star801 · 04/08/2019 10:18

An-eye-ees

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/08/2019 10:17

It’s An-eye-eess. Anay is Brits trying to be clever with the s on the end and ignoring the dots above the i

BertrandRussell · 04/08/2019 10:16

Definitely not Anay.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/08/2019 10:15

You are right, Bablo.

An-ey-ees

happytobemrsg · 04/08/2019 10:14

I thought it was A-nay

Leakinglikeacolander · 04/08/2019 10:13

It is definitely Ann -I -ees

Heyha · 04/08/2019 10:13

I always thought it was an-eye-ees too , had a girl introduced to me as an-nay (thought her name was Annie for a few days 🙄) so I'm glad to read more people agreeing with 'my' way!
