I get to collect my girl bulldog puppy in a week today and the breeder would like me to confirm the name I’ve chosen, which I still haven’t done. I want a really girly feminine name for her!
So far on my list I have:
Colette (Coco)

Suggestions please!

BettyCrockaShit our babs was named by the rehoming charity. We rehomed her 3 years ago after some scumbag was trying to sell her for £50 on gumtree. She was 7 years old and unspayed Sad she was in a shocking state and very poorly. The vet found a puppy mummified inside her 😡
But she found her way to me and new home new name
The charity that saved babs is called the Edward foundation if anyone was interested in a bulldog and didn't want a puppy

Antoinette - "let them eat cake" Marie Antoinette ?? 😄

As for the breed looks like you know your stuff. I agree some of them are bred to create this flatter appearance in their faces (which is cruel), but I also believe there are breeders, out there, who are avoiding this.

It's your choice anyway!!

Bulldogs cannot give birth naturally. The "responsible breeder" you're paying has chosen for their pet to be sedated and operated on unnecessarily. Humans really are a cancer on this planet.

Another poor deformed dog brought into the world... 😞 destined for a life of discomfort, but as long as it looks cute for Instagram...

Asphyxia!! isn't that strangulation. confused
Fixie's cute, though

Sigh. Asphyxiation is not being able to breathe. Like Bulldogs.

@DickieDonkey if your in England or Wales it is now illegal under the dog breeding licensing conditions. Your Local authority inspectors are the enforcers.

@neon552
The breeder I go to is very sensible - kennel club approved, each girl only has one litter in their life time, and the puppies are 100% pedigree with no crossbreeding whatsoever.

KC ‘approval’ is meaningless the breed standard describes respiratory distress as ‘undesirable’. How about breeding animals that don’t have to struggle every moment of their lives and can actively enjoy themselves instead? And not crossbreding is no recommendation - bulldogs are one of the most genetically inbred breeds - genetic experts actively recommend cross breeding them
www.independent.co.uk/news/science/english-bulldog-health-problems-inbreeding-pedigree-dog-breeds-breeders-a7160041.html

Also how many breeding bitches does your breeder own if she’s only breeding once from each...

I would say I’m very experienced with bulldogs now - I realise what they can and can’t do etc.

You mean you’ve convinced yourself that they can’t do normal dog behaviours?

They are in the best possible shape, and none of the puppies produced have been known to have health issues at this present time.

So they all breathe silently? Don’t snore? No thought not. So they do have health problems, it’s just that you’ve convinced yourself it’s ‘normal for the breed’ just because something is commonplace it doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. Research has shown unequivocally that the majority of brachycephslic breeders and owners simply aren’t able to identify poor welfare in their own dogs - even when these dogs have diagnosed health problems.
www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2019/07/19/fifth-short-muzzled-dogs-require-corrective-surgery-study-finds/

I already own an almost 5 year old male bulldog from the same breeder. I have had him since a puppy and he has been a dream from day one. I would say I’m very experienced with bulldogs now

Genetic experts, the veterinary profession and animal welfare organisations are all unanimous and at Brachycephaly is abnormal and causes multiple health and welfare problems. Your 5 years of dog ownership and a few chats with a breeder who is selling you pathologically deformed dogs does not make you knowledgeable. Please educate yourself properly, the more you’ve written, the more you’ve highlighted how little you know.

only ever support the purchase of bulldog / french bulldog / pug puppies from very specific sensible breeders, and the care for the dog is very very important. You MUST have experience or do research.

I completely agree that you must do research - if you did you’d understand that it is IMPOSSIBLE to breed a healthy bulldog to the current breed standard. Breeding bulldogs relies on selecting for genetic abnormalities that cause Robinow syndrome in humans - you aren’t selecting for ‘looks’ you have to select for genetic abnormalities.
www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/01/190103120849.htm

I’m sure that you’ll be convinced that you/your breeder know better than science and that your dogs are different. But they aren’t. Please educate yourself.

Cleopatra (comin’ atcha).

Lexilooo · 02/08/2019 18:27

Why not name her after a real princess? A dog called Eugenie would be awesome!!

Other princesses are available but their names are less cool.

Disgustingly choice. I have the misfortune to live in the same street as a bulldog breeder, and they are mutant, inbreed dogs that can barely breath. I have reported the evil, money making breeder to the authorities but they are not interested as breeding for profit is not a crime. They must live out their miserable lives in agony, even though I have proof that the owner mates the bitch with its own father. Could these people be any more depraved!!
