Due out in Sept/ Oct.
My 2018 baby is now 1 and a half and I'd love to know where her name comes.
So top predictions.
I'm going with Freya for a girl.
Boys... Harry/ Enzo/ Theo.

Any more ideas now we're nearing the end of August?

I'm predicting that pretty old fashioned names will continue for girls- Ceciliy, Celia, Della, Adele, Cecilia. Victorian maid names too- Betty and Mabel and Dora and more regal older names- Beatrice and Dorothy and Marguerite and Daphne. Also nature names like Audra/Audrey, Celeste, Aria, Astra, Lark and Wren

Boys- medieval will continue so I think more Wilfs and Hugos. I think Edwin and Edmund could be break outs. Nature names too- Fox and Bear and Blue and River. I also think some traditional and simple names are due a revival. John and Peter and David are solid but no longer common.

Camila (ca-mee-la) is the Spanish form of Camilla and v popular in Hispanic communities in the US.

starkid · 13/08/2019 14:13

Avery as a girls name is ranked 14, Camila ranked 23!

Most of my favourite names are more popular in US than over here - I wonder what that says about my taste...

Poetryinaction · 12/08/2019 23:26

American boys names are not my cup of tea!

Thanks! Wow Liam number one boys nameShock that seems so random

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/08/2019 20:12

CocoBlair · 12/08/2019 17:17

Are the American top names available?

starkid · 12/08/2019 14:45

@Sew3stitch - "Girls seems a bit more varied but I see quite a lot of flower/nature names like Ivy so I think that will climb."

I really hope you did that pun on purpose Grin

Am TTC so always jump straight on the ONS as soon as it's out and despair when my favourite names inevitably become more popular

Pinkout · 12/08/2019 11:11

It’s a shame about Ivy. My DD is called Ivy and when she was born eight years ago there were barely any of them. Sad.

LazyLizzy · 09/08/2019 12:30

I'm assuming Destiny-Dior will become DeeDeeGrin .

Vasya · 09/08/2019 12:20

Ivy will be right up there! Every other girl baby I've met for the last 4 years has been an Ivy.

Expect to see a surge in Archies, but likely not til next year.

TildaTurnip · 09/08/2019 12:14

nature names like Ivy so I think that will climb
Grin

Amelie, Emilia, Elodie

Amelia is so popular that I think more are going for slight variations/similar sounding.

Sew3stitch · 09/08/2019 12:08

@ZoyaTheDestroyer ONS website too so maybe they have two dates in different places?! I looked at upcoming releases.

Cookit, ah have I misunderstood. That's normal for me.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/08/2019 11:18

The publication date has steadily slipped backwards - the data used to come out in August (where did you see 29 August, @Sew3stitch? ONS website still says September / October). I imagine it’s quite a low priority with everything else that’s going on in government.

Cookit · 09/08/2019 11:11

Noah is already number 4. Only beat by Oliver, George and Harry.

JemimasJumper · 09/08/2019 10:59

Noah. Surprised no one has mentioned this so far

Cookit · 09/08/2019 10:58

Yes Teddy is everywhere. It’s like Evie though, you have to add up Evie, Evelyn, Evangeline so it doesn’t appear quite as popular as it in fact is.

Cookit · 09/08/2019 10:56

Never understand why it takes so long for these to come out
I was thinking about this. I guess people have until mid Feb to register babies born right at the end of the year. And you’d probably want to leave until March for people who register late. But the surely most of the tabling is straight forward and done automatically. The analysis taking a few weeks max?
When you register does it all go onto a national system I wonder or do councils have to send in records which I suppose would delay things.

PetraRabbit · 09/08/2019 10:55

A rise in Ted, Teddy and any longer birth certificate version eg. Edgar/Edward/Theodore. Almost every newborn boy I know in 2018 and 2019 was called Teddy.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/08/2019 10:49

I think Louis may rise slightly.

Old Testament boys’ names and ‘granny-chic’ girls’ names will continue to rise.

I predict that Megan and Liam will drop out of the top 100 for girls and boys respectively.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 09/08/2019 08:04

Arlo & Lola

Also expect Olivia & Amelia and Harry & Oliver to be just as popular as the last few years.

Skyejuly · 09/08/2019 07:52

Violet
Penelope
Margot
Emmeline
