Cora, Kira or Thalia?

Hi! I'm having a hard time choosing between these three names, and I hope someone will add their opinion and help me make a final decision.

I love Cora not only because it's simple and sweet, but it reminds me of corals, thus making me immediately think of the ocean. Does anyone else think so too, or is it just me? Kira is another favorite because I love the meaning and how it sounds. And as for Thalia, I just love its Greek roots and the meaning and pronunciation (I pronounce it as Tah-Lee-Ah). It's always been one of those names that I never get tired of, despite the possibility of confusion over the spelling.

I love them pretty much equally, but as a sea-lover, I'm also wondering if everyone else thinks of the ocean when they hear the name Cora. That's the main reason for why it's on my final list, and I want others' opinions as well

Thalia

IsobelRae23 · 30/07/2019 23:49

I came on to suggest Coral with Cora for short. Such a pretty name.

Thalia is nice too.

Kira- I have it in my head a mum screening it to her child all the time in the year 2000- it’s stuck in my head!! So it’s kind of ‘lowered’ the name for me, if that makes sense.

Love Cora, elegant. Have you considered Coral? I've known a Coral.

Kira is quite 90s. Not my cup of tea. And I wouldn't go with Thalia spelt like this because of the pronunciation confusion, Talia is nice though.

TheRLodger · 30/07/2019 21:43

All three are lovely but I particularly like Cora

JJSMC · 30/07/2019 21:29

Cora and Thalia are both lovely. Personally don't like Kira at all. A friend's daughter is called Thalie (Tah-lee). Also lovely

30not13 · 30/07/2019 21:06

Cora

My daughter is called Cora. She's a teenager now, but it's a name that has suited her at all ages. It's unusual enough to be different, but no so much that it's daft! We have Irish heritage so that was one of our reasons for choosing it.

ladyisabelle · 30/07/2019 20:41

Thalia!! My god-sister is called this- she is from a Greek family and pronounces it with th though. If you want to pronounce with t I would go for the Italian/Spanish Talia.

Hoursandminutes · 30/07/2019 09:13

Thalia is by far my fav

Pineapplefish · 30/07/2019 08:57

Cora is nice but it doesn't make me think of the ocean, sorry! How about Coral or Coralie?

I like Thalia a lot, not so keen on Kira.

Emelene · 30/07/2019 08:54

Cora. It's beautiful. 😍

CampfireZen · 30/07/2019 07:33

Thalia is a beautiful name. (Tahlia/Talia ditto)
Lovely meaning in Greek.

Have heard 3 variations: pron TAH-lee-yuh, THAY-lee-yuh and TAY-lee-yuh!
(Think Spanish was the TAH-lee-yuh version?)

People will soon pick up on whichever spelling/pronunciation your DD uses...after all, Siobhan/Chloe/Isla etc. once probably raised confused eyebrows before becoming more mainstream!

Astronica · 29/07/2019 23:32

Kira is the only one of those I like, though I prefer Kiera or Ciara spellings.

BackforGood · 29/07/2019 23:11

Cora is okay, but doesn't make any link with coral for me - they not pronounced the same.... Cora is "core-ah" but coral is more of a rhyme with laurel in my accent.

Kira looks like a spelling mistake to me

I'll be honest, if I saw Thalia written down, I would say "th" (like at the beginning of 'thin'). I might be wrong, but I suspect I'm not the only one. So, similarly, f I were writing it down, pronounced the way you state, I'd have spelt it wrong. That can get very tiring over your lifetime.

Abhann · 29/07/2019 23:06

Cora is nice. Thalia is generally pronounced THAY-lee-a, so I would spell differently if you don’t want to pronounce it that way. Kira/Ciara isn’t interesting to me.

Jallebi · 29/07/2019 23:03

Cora is lovely. Kira means insect in many Indian languages.

Linnet · 29/07/2019 22:59

Kira is a lovely name I’d choose that one.

Letthemysterybe · 29/07/2019 22:54

I like Cora the best. I also like Coralie.

Smellbellina · 29/07/2019 22:54

How about Tala?

catchyjem · 29/07/2019 22:53

I love the name Cora!

derekmorgan · 29/07/2019 22:52

By bit I mean boy, obviously 🤦🏻‍♀️

TheOnlySnot · 29/07/2019 22:52

I love Cora 😍

derekmorgan · 29/07/2019 22:52

Cora. Such a lovely name! It was on our girls shortlist but had a bit so didn't get to use it.

dellacucina · 29/07/2019 22:52

They are all nice!

Sportsnight · 29/07/2019 22:51

Cora. I also like Mara for similar reasons to you op.
