Uncommon girls name. - Rumer or True

Llamamama1 · 29/07/2019 12:22

Hi all,

My tiny girls list only consists of:

Rumer
True

I have searched for hours and hours to find some other options to consider and keep coming up blank! Interested to hear preferences between the two and other options!

I prefer uncommon but short and simple names.

Sibling is Arlo!

OP posts:

How about Truly rather than True?
I like unusual names but not completely bonkers ones like True and Rumer😂

LittleDoveLove · 31/07/2019 23:13

Definitely not True the poor child will never be taken seriously! Rumer isn't much better to be honest. You are naming a human who will have this name the rest of their life. I hope the middle names are more sensible if you choose one of those so they at least the choice to use something more sensible in adulthood.

midsomermurderess · 31/07/2019 22:54

Rory is a boy's name.

SemperIdem · 31/07/2019 08:56

True is dreadful.

Rumer I’m not overly keen on but is significantly better than True.

Honor would be my suggestion.

Fuiseog · 30/07/2019 17:08

You seem to like strong "u" / "oo" sounds based on your top two choices, so if you are looking to expand the list, that might be a good starting point. I really like that sound too.

Some of the names I immediately thought of are:
Úna
Julie/Julia
Judy
Azul

and my favourites:
Juliette
Lucy
Luna
Juno
(or similar June/Juna/Junia).

I think you should pick what you love most and can imagine calling your baby.

I don't follow the Kardashian stuff so didn't know that was a name in their family until I read responses, and when I read your original post, I thought it sounded like a very cute name. It's up to you whether you think it would bother you that people would think you are a big fan.

I really like the name Rumer based on sound (that lovely u with r sounds, which I also love), but I always hesitate over the potential for immediately thinking of or confusing with the word "Rumour", which I don't think of as a positive word. I'm not sure I could get past the association which I don't think I'd want my child to have, which is why it never quite made my list, but I have more than once considered it for the list because I like the sound! Again, it's up to you if you think this will bother you or could bother your baby.

Best of luck!

Cyberworrier · 30/07/2019 15:05

Thanks to PP - yes Rumy would sound like Ru - mee, rather than
room - ee. The difference is subtle but exists! I know a Japanese Rumi short for Rumiko and no one has ever said oh like Roomy afaik!

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 30/07/2019 12:55

It is an old English name albeit a surname meaning a gypsy or traveller probably stemming from Romer, the word Rumour also comes from the same source

Icklepup · 30/07/2019 10:51

Jura
Hera
Ezrie
Stella
Petal
Storm

SoupDragon · 30/07/2019 10:46

in my accetn Rumy is Rue-my as opposed to roomy. so Rue-muh not roo-muh.

Lol. Those are all the same in my accent :o

PatricksRum · 30/07/2019 07:27

Not sure true is that uncommon after the kardashians

veeboo · 30/07/2019 05:20

Sorry if someone has suggested this but what about Truely? It's a fairly unusual but still well known Irish name.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 30/07/2019 05:15

Rumer (Godden) was her mother’s maiden name. That’s fine, but it isn’t an old English name. It’s also a very ugly sounding name.

Sashkin · 30/07/2019 05:14

Alva?
Kerttu?
Lumi?
Sanni?
Sirku?
Tarja?

QOD · 30/07/2019 04:49

Rumer 👌🏼

Astronica · 30/07/2019 04:44

I don't mind Rumer, and I think the author makes this unusual name more usable. Note how much it has been misspelt on this thread though so use it with your eyes open!

I think True works nicely as a middle name for something more mainstream ie Phoebe True or Eliza True.
Paget
Raina
Rhea
Rhian
Reva
Quinn
Tess
Tansy
Tanith
Mabli

OwlBeThere · 30/07/2019 04:39

OP, I like Rumer.
And as an aside i know a child named True, and literally nobody has teased him for it. times have changed i think and there are such a variety of more 'unusual' names that no kids bat an eye. i know children with all kinds of weird and wonderful names. what name did my child think was odd? Nick. Grin

OwlBeThere · 30/07/2019 04:37

@missdumbledore, Eira isn't pronounced air-ah, the welsh 'ei' sound is quite a hard one to describe written down, but its sort of half way between 'eye' and how you'd say the letter A. so ay-ra. sort of. lol

@soupdragon, in my accetn Rumy is Rue-my as opposed to roomy. so Rue-muh not roo-muh. just a variation that may sound different to the person who suggested it.

BackforGood · 30/07/2019 00:37

Am I the only one thinking this sounds like a pub / drinking game 'Rumour or true?' Hmm

Pleas don't give a poor child ether of these names.

RaggeddeeAnn · 30/07/2019 00:36

True- wasn’t that also the hunger games cute kid that got speared?
Rumer- sounds like she was conceived due to a bottle of rum.

Still they are better than moonunit or north or blue ivy or star

I pulled my kids names from my family tree so they have uncommon names from 200+ yrs ago. It’s hard choosing names because you have to think about possible teasing in future. Like I had ancestors named Desire, Chastity, Shubael, Deliverance, Prudence, etc....all no go because of teasing factor.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 30/07/2019 00:24

Rumer was my firstborn, she died aged three months. I love it. It’s an old English name. Not so keen on True prefer Prue for sound or Vera/Verity for meaning.

My other daughter is Marilla but was nearly Eris.

SkiingIsHeaven · 30/07/2019 00:18

Really!

user27495824 · 30/07/2019 00:15

I LOVE Rumer. All my potential other suggestions are too unusual to go with Arlo though.

Wakeupalready · 30/07/2019 00:12

Please not True. Instant Kardashian wannabe vibes, and when their popularity eventually implodes on them, you'll regret the name.

Rumer is much better, and isn't only associated with Demi Moore - there is also the author Rumer Goddard.
Other very random suggestions -

Romy
Arkie
Rosie
Nina
Maeve
Kirra/Kirrily
Asha
Sibella
Betsy
Hetty
