The other thing I consider is how names sound in the local accent. Some sound truly horrific in some of the accents where I live (near London). So a lot of my favourite Irish and European names wouldn't work here.

I don't like anything that will date, so I like classic names (not necessarily English classics though) and nothing too popular / trendy. I know these aren't exactly obscure, but they aren't obviously of the moment or recently of the moment, like Jack, Harry, Charlie, Oliver etc.

99bb · 29/07/2019 08:27

Ooh, and Dominic and Elliot

99bb · 29/07/2019 08:27

My absolute favourites (some of which I couldn’t use for various practical reasons like family members names and not fitting our surname)

Andrew (Drew)
Benedict
Edward
James
Miles
Rupert
Sebastian
Thomas

And my guilty pleasure because I would never have used it, especially after it’s been so trendy in the last 10 years or so, is Atticus
