Just seeing if anyone has same nickname for William that my sister suggested. Also how popular it is as lists suggest it isn't really common now which surprised me. Thanks x

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
whatausername · 29/07/2019 22:17

Yeah, Liam is from William although is more of a standalone name these deals. It would be somewhat like calling your sons James and Jim Grin

Josiefuzz · 29/07/2019 21:56

@whatausername my sister mentioned Liam which I had never heard of, but a few mentions here. We already have a liam. We also have a nephew on DHs side called Billy so wanted to judge how common that was. Looks like it's back to the drawing board 🤣 my son is four weeks tomorrow. I blame DH for working in education so long!

simplyhaving · 29/07/2019 21:44

I know a Lliam.

Don't do that.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 29/07/2019 21:42

It's probably the most common boys' name in my kids schools & activities.

Off the top of my head, 60% are William, 30% are Billy, 10% Will,

Liams, as far as I know, are 'Liam', and not nn from William

kenandbarbie · 29/07/2019 19:04

Lots. Will, Bill, Billy, William, Wills, Will I Am.

FrangipaniBlue · 29/07/2019 18:46

Should've said, Bill is in his 60s Will is 39 if that makes any difference?

FrangipaniBlue · 29/07/2019 18:45

I know 2 adult Williams, one is Bill and the other Will.

But I also know a child William (11, DSs friend) who is just known as William!

whatausername · 29/07/2019 18:13

OP what is the nn?

pikapikachu · 29/07/2019 17:54

I know someone who is probably the world’s only 25 year old Bill, and a handful of Wills.

boo1507 · 29/07/2019 17:30

I have one. I wasn’t keen on Will as a nickname and imagined using Billy or Liam. It didn’t happen. We use William, Will, Wills and Wilf. And sometimes Woo (he’s only 3). His best friend uses Liam. The boy calls himself Wim or Wim Wim and that has entered wider usages as well.

devilishlygood · 29/07/2019 16:25

My dad is 62 and has always been Willie.

His wife calls him Wilbur or Wilburt occasionally 😊

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 29/07/2019 16:10

I know quite a few Williams. The younger ones are all called by their full name. Will for the one in his 30s and both Middle Aged Williams are known as Bill.

Lollygaggles · 29/07/2019 16:03

The William I know is 9 and still known as William at home and Will sometimes at school
