Just seeing if anyone has same nickname for William that my sister suggested. Also how popular it is as lists suggest it isn't really common now which surprised me. Thanks x

I know:

2 grown up Will
1 elderly Bill
1 young Billy
1 who doesn't shorten it all and is William

Grufallosfriends · 06/08/2019 22:38

Will or Liam are most common.

I don't like Willy or Billy (sounds like silly).

DelphiniumBlue · 06/08/2019 20:39

I know several in their twenties, all Billy or Will. There are also quite a few children in the Primary school I work at, and they are all either Will or William.

Jinglebin1 · 06/08/2019 20:34

I know 3. Two are Will one is Billy

I even know a Willy. I'm sure there are others I'm not remembering. I know loads of Williams, all different ages.

LittleDoveLove · 06/08/2019 20:29

It would need to me Will for me. I really don't like Billy at all!

devilishlygood · 05/08/2019 19:59

@tomboytown, glad to hear this.

My first DC is due in Nov, I have always been very certain that a boy will have William (my dads name, and a strong family name) as middle name. DH’s son is called Liam and although we don’t really see him, I did worry that it would be a bit too close and would weird people out.

I do agree that they are very different names, and sort of surprised that Liam would be considered a diminutive of William.

tomboytown · 05/08/2019 18:49

Well Pipi, we have a William and a Liam and no- one has ever made that connection.

sanityisamyth · 05/08/2019 17:47

I have a William. He's got a nickname (that has nothing to do with his real name and would be very outing!) or he's William. Some of his teachers call him Will, but he tells them his name is William!

Pippilangstrumpfi · 05/08/2019 17:38

I'm also surprised how many Willies there are out there Grin

Pippilangstrumpfi · 05/08/2019 17:37

I think you can have a William and a Liam, they’re very different names.

Liam is literally part of William!

janeyre · 05/08/2019 17:04

ODFOx · 05/08/2019 17:02

Yes, as a baby up to one, he will willy.
Primary full title or will.
Secondary his mates called him will, and as an adult he's will.
This one is 28

Goingbacktokansascity · 05/08/2019 16:42

Apolloanddaphne · 05/08/2019 13:26

yellowellies · 05/08/2019 13:06

Pippilangstrumpfi · 05/08/2019 07:24

Is Wullie pronounced like Woolly as in woolly jumper? Or like Wally?

Tigger001 · 04/08/2019 23:15

twattymctwatterson · 04/08/2019 22:51

fudgesmummy · 04/08/2019 21:24

My DS is called William 😍
He was called William by everyone until his early teens when it started being shortened to Will.
He is now 32 and the only people who call him William are his grandparents and his younger sister 😁
