Odette

Thoughts? We already have an Aurora, aged 3. I know they’re both names of princesses and from ballet so I’m concerned that using them as sibling names will be a bit... twee?

Other name suggestions are appreciated for a girl and boy. Middle names for Odette too as we’re struggling.

Thanks, Liz x

sisters I know are
Aurora and Bella
Aurora and Pixie

Marcipex · 29/07/2019 07:44

Honestly? I think nearly everyone will say Odd ett. English speakers will anyway.

LizzyMargaret · 29/07/2019 07:37

The ballet/princess link is probably the only thing putting us off using the name so we would probably make a conscious effort to avoid that if we don’t end up using Odette or have another child in the future.

Love it, and it's beautiful alongside Aurora.

Also made me think of the wartime spy too - a strong courageous woman.

PaquitaVariation · 29/07/2019 01:09

I would make the ballet link but it’s a nice enough name. Would you continue the theme for a theoretical third child? Then it would become more obvious.

EllenEyewater · 29/07/2019 00:51

There’s always Giselle if you want to continue the ballet theme.

LongPurples · 29/07/2019 00:40

I know you didn't ask for opinions on the name, but Odette makes me think 'omlette', so I don't like it at all, sorry.

However, in answer to your query about whether it is too matchy with Aurora, I would definitely connect them with ballet and mentally raise an eyebrow.

FreddiesMammy · 29/07/2019 00:35

It’s gorgeous, sounds lovely with Aurora too

merlotqueen · 29/07/2019 00:33

I like Odette and worked with a lovely Odile once.

Frith2013 · 29/07/2019 00:31

It’s ok but Ottilie was on my list.

For some reason, Ursula has popped into my mind, which isn’t similar at all.

BareBelliedSneetch · 28/07/2019 19:41

I love the name Odette.

I know a 40-something Odette.

Ottilie is a good call too (I know a 4 yr old ottilie)

Dorigen · 28/07/2019 19:36

Odette is gorgeous, and goes beautifully with Aurora.

LizzyMargaret · 28/07/2019 19:35

It’s pronounced Oh-Deht or Aw-Deht. No odd sound in it.

The only Odettes I know (France) are 60 plus. It is a very old fashioned name.

bigmap · 28/07/2019 19:08

I think it looks nice written down but is it pronounced "oh-debt"? (best I could go phonetically). If that's how it's pronounced I think it's awful

MadameJosephine · 28/07/2019 19:04

Beautiful, both Odette and Aurora are gorgeous names. For middle names how about

Odette Joy
Odette Margarite

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 28/07/2019 19:01

I love Odette it's beautiful, so is Odile.

Changedname81 · 28/07/2019 18:55

Does Odette have an Odd sound? (To a pp)

I pronounce it O-Debt not Odd-et

Is that right?

Either way they match really nicely

daisypond · 28/07/2019 18:55

Sorry, I think they are very twee together just because of the ballet link. But I’m not sure how many people will pick up on that. I like Odette, though. It has some strength about it.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/07/2019 16:50

Possible flower names for a middle besides Viola:
