Do you see these as boys of girls names?

What gender do you see these names as or do you see them as unisex, I’m asking because I often see unisex names as a girls name or boy name and there’s very few I can see as either:
Logan
Rowan
Reese
Wren
Jordan
Taylor
Robin
Spencer
Ellis
Avery
Eden
Blake
Blair

I know there’s hundreds more but off the top of my head these are what I can think of.

My niece is Jordan but spelt Jordain

Surely the pronunciation is different. As in ordain, refrain, detain, as opposed to tan, sedan (these being not quite the same as Jordan anyway). Hmm

OkPedro · 31/07/2019 02:57

My niece is Jordan but spelt Jordain
Wren isn’t a name
Ellis is a surname
Spencer is male and awful
I know a boy and girl Taylor

LackOfAdhesiveDucks · 31/07/2019 02:52

I’m in Canada so maybe a different perspective but:

Logan - unisex (I know both male and female ones)
Rowan - unisex (I only know female ones though)
Reese - unisex
Wren - female
Jordan - unisex (I know both male and female ones, more girls though)
Taylor - unisex (I know both male and female one, more girls though)
Robin - unisex
Spencer - unisex
Ellis - female (?)
Avery - female
Eden - female
Blake - unisex (I know both male and female ones)
Blair - unisex (I know both male and female ones)

ThePalehorse · 31/07/2019 01:55

Robyn, Wren and Eden I prefer as girls names.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 31/07/2019 01:32

Logan boy
Rowan either but increasingly girl
Reese girl with s boy with c
Wren girl
Jordan boy
Taylor girl
Robin boy unless spellt with a y
Spencer boy
Ellis boy
Avery boy
Eden girl
Blake boy
Blair boy

xTinkerbell · 31/07/2019 01:24

I always see names as one or the other, not necessarily because they 'sound' more like that gender but because I prefer them for that gender for example I like Charli for a girl but wouldn't call a boy Charlie even though it's def a more common boys name.

Anyway,

Logan boy
Rowan boy
Reese boy
Wren boy
Jordan boy
Taylor boy
Robin boy
Spencer boy
Ellis boy
Avery girl
Eden girl
Blake boy but then I know a boy and a girl called Blake
Blair boy but again know a girl named Blair

Wren and Eden I see as girls’ names, Blake and Avery boys’. Logan, Reese (this spelling), Robin, and Rowan feel unisex to me. The rest are surnames.

Youmadorwhat · 30/07/2019 02:19

Logan boy
Rowan either
Reese either
Wren girl
Jordan either
Taylor either
Robin either

RockinHippy · 30/07/2019 02:14

Oh I missed Taylor, also only known girls with this name

RockinHippy · 30/07/2019 02:14

All boys bar Wren, Eden & Rowan. I've never met a male version of any of those. The others are all male to me bar Robin, which seems to be more popular as a girls name now, but was always a boys name for anyone over 30

MummyMcCracken · 30/07/2019 00:04

Logan-boy
Rowan-boy
Reese-boy
Wren-boy
Jordan-unisex
Robin-girl

RoseMartha · 30/07/2019 00:03

Eden and Wren girls

Jordan and Taylor have heard of girls but say male names to me.

Rest definitely male.

Although Robin spelt Robyn is female.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 29/07/2019 23:58

Eden Hazard is a male footballer

Avery was a make lawyer in The Firm book and film

BizzzzyBee · 29/07/2019 23:54

Logan, Robin, Spencer, Ellis, Blake are boys. The rest are girls.

Enko · 29/07/2019 23:50

Logan male
Rowan male *but I do know a girl Rowan
Reese female spelled this way (Reiss male)
Wren female
Jordan Male (but I know of female Jodan's)
Taylor male (but yes I know Taylor can be a girls name)
Robin male this way Robyn female
Spencer male
Ellis male
Avery male
Eden female now but used to be male
Blake male
Blair male (but know of a female one too)

I have a unisex name myself I LOATHE it.. I have had to have debates with people about if I really was female or not. I LOATHE people phoning me up asking for MR (firstname) and I wish my parents had not given me a unisex name...

PixieLumos · 29/07/2019 12:51

It depends where you’re from really - in the UK I would say boys names, in America I think using them as girls’ names is more common so unisex there.

RuthW · 29/07/2019 12:35

Logan either

Rowan girl

Reese boy

Wren girl

Jordan boy

Taylor girl

Robin either

Spencer boy

Ellis either

Avery girl

Eden girl

Blake boy

Blair boy

TempsPerdu · 29/07/2019 10:14

Logan - boy
Rowan - genuinely unisex - it’s DD’s middle name (for the tree)
Reese - mainly boy, occasionally girl with this spelling; always boy spelt Rhys/Reece
Wren - definitely girl... with the caveat that I do know of a boy who has this as a middle name
Jordan - either, tending towards boy
Taylor - either, tending towards girl

Robin - mainly boy, although I have taught a female Robin; generally Robyn for a girl
Spencer - boy
Ellis - boy
Avery - probably girl, although I’ve never met one
Eden - unisex - I’ve taught both
Blake - boy
Blair - boy

OliviaHarrison · 29/07/2019 05:12

I would say they are all unisex

Except Avery, Wren and Robin are girls.

And Spencer is a boys name.
