For a girl. Y/N?

P.S. This was inspired by seeing the name Fable in another thread. It's not a name I'm using

A beautiful African antelope.

Owlbert · 27/07/2019 18:03

Not sure but think it would grow on me!

elQuintoConyo · 26/07/2019 21:26

Sable Colby for me. Stephanie Beacham, stunning woman.

I quite like the name Sable!

alessandrae83 · 26/07/2019 19:32

Nooo

Frith2013 · 26/07/2019 19:01

No. It’s what paintbrushes are made from.

Atlasta · 26/07/2019 17:36

Knew a dog called Sable.
I don't like it

Peachbubble · 26/07/2019 17:34

Nope

Footle · 26/07/2019 17:32

British shortbread is very similar to French sablé which is called that because of the gritty or sandy texture.

manicmij · 26/07/2019 17:15

Sable was a well known fur that is now very outdated and highly frowned upon unless if course you have a sable wrap mothballed in a cupboard somehere. Just keep hearing stable/fable when thinking of it as a name.

ChicCroissant · 26/07/2019 16:46

Sable Colby was my first thought too.

ZandathePanda · 26/07/2019 16:39

Colour of a dog like a German Shepherd.

feelingverylazytoday · 26/07/2019 16:36

Are you actually being serious, OP?
Sable - a character in Dynasty, or a WWE wrestler (her ring name, not her real name). Both kind of dated and a bit naff really.
Please think of another name. There are thousands of beautiful and meaningful girl's names to choose from.

GrouchyKiwi · 26/07/2019 16:34

Yum. Sablé biscuit.

whatausername · 26/07/2019 16:16

I should add this thread wasn't to laugh at those who love or hate it. It was merely one of those fleeting thoughts one has, but for once acted upon

Ohhh the temptation to troll Joystir Grin alas I am more intrigued by this biscuit a few of you have mentioned. Joystir you can unclench - I just wanted to see how it'd go down. I literally saw Fable and my brain did the rhyming game et voilá my thread was born. Now, someone said shortbread?

What's so wrong with sand?

CeeCee88 · 26/07/2019 16:09

Sable means sand in French, so I wouldn't personally go down that route.

MikeUniformMike · 26/07/2019 16:04

How about Beaver?

ElizabethMainwaring · 26/07/2019 16:03

Sable Colby was a character in Dynasty. A cousin of Alexis Carrington, who was Joan Collins. Sable was played by Stephanie Beecham.
All this aside, I think that it's a beautiful name.

Courtney555 · 26/07/2019 16:00

Isn't that a type of hair paintbrush. Please don't call your child that

joystir59 · 26/07/2019 15:58

Or you could consider Saline, Salve, Sauna, Sewer, Siberia, Saliva,

joystir59 · 26/07/2019 15:56

Why not chose one of the millions of actual baby names in existence?

joystir59 · 26/07/2019 15:56

Awful

Notmydalek · 26/07/2019 15:53

My first thought is it sounds like a stripper or a drag queen name so I’m not keen. Definitely agree on the Jackie Collins bonkbuster heroine too.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/07/2019 15:51

It sounds like a Jackie Collins bonkbuster heroine- very dated and think maybe someone was called Sable on Dynasty?
Def no from me!
