Baby #2 is due in October. I already have a son, Stanley.
I'm fussy with names
Nothing in top 50
Nothing with strong R or W sound (clashes with surname)
Not ambiguous to say/spell
Vintage or classic name
Has nickname options.
Middle name will be Elsie

So after a LOT of researching a name came to me out of nowhere. It's very unusual and a vintage girl name. I love it and Husband does. However when I look it up on websites, it seems to be a name people either love, or hate.
So now I'm doubting myself.
Do I just go with the name that feels right, and that meets my criteria and brace myself for a few possibly insensitive/negative comments OR just go back to the drawing board again?

It's a real name ceecee.

Sexnotgender · 23/07/2019 22:19

It’s really not great but it’s not the worst name ever.

NoBaggyPants · 23/07/2019 22:18

How do you get from Araminta to Marnie?

Sounds like an Aldi brand of mints to me. Sorry.

ivykaty44 · 23/07/2019 22:18

It’s very exotic, sophisticated name, very different from your other choices

Antigonads · 23/07/2019 22:18

Nothing wrong with that.

Mrskeats · 23/07/2019 22:18

I love it.

Tartyflette · 23/07/2019 22:18

Araminta is fine. Bit of a mouthful but you like it and that's all that matters.

ceecee32 · 23/07/2019 22:17

Of course it's not popular you have made it up..... nickname.... polominta

Poor child

StrikingMatches · 23/07/2019 22:17

Love it. Go for it.

Rainbowknickers · 23/07/2019 22:17

Your baby your choice
I called my son a marmite name and took some stick but just ignored the ignorant twats
He really suits/loves his name now which is all that matters

BigcatLittlecat · 23/07/2019 22:16

If you can't tell an anonymous forum, how will you tell people in real life?

MadisonAvenue · 23/07/2019 22:15

ivykaty44 😂😂

Joeybee · 23/07/2019 22:15

I'm scared to say the name and then everyone slate it.
Anyway the name is Araminta.
I like that it's not popular but not edited, like that you can get Ara, Minty, Minny or Marnie as nicknames. Think it goes with Stanley and Elsie. Also it think it's obvious to say and spell. I don't want my child to spend their whole life spelling out their name like I've had to do.
Plus it just'feels' right, and Husband likes it too, and we haven't agreed on any name for a girl so far.

TitianaTitsling · 23/07/2019 22:14

Gobnait?

Greenvalleymama · 23/07/2019 22:14

You'll never please everyone. I love Stanley. I bet I'd love it!
My daughter is Nancy, which is pretty marmite (on here at least) but I couldn't care less.
Tell us! But go for it anyway.

Barbarafromblackpool · 23/07/2019 22:11

Go for it. No one likes every name.

Cymbalon · 23/07/2019 22:11

What is the point of this thread? Unless you think every MNer has a psychic hotline to your thoughts, how on Earth can we give an opinion?

Sexnotgender · 23/07/2019 22:08

Tell us the name woman Grin

ivykaty44 · 23/07/2019 22:06

It’s Hilda isn’t it?

Antigonads · 23/07/2019 22:06

It’s awful. But your baby your choice.

fizzybubblepop · 23/07/2019 22:04

I chose a little used classic (I think!) for my little girl that is probably considered a bit out there but I love it and get lots of compliments. She's Dorothy but we mostly call her Dotty. I'm yet to meet another one. I questioned my choice a little bit when came she just looked like little Dotty!

AJPTaylor · 23/07/2019 22:02

Stanley is a name people love or hate. It's well known territory for you.

IsolaPribby · 23/07/2019 22:00

If you like it, use it, but if you come on here asking for advice, then you need to tell us what it is!

lljkk · 23/07/2019 22:00

to Blowholes.
