Baby #2 is due in October. I already have a son, Stanley.
I'm fussy with names
Nothing in top 50
Nothing with strong R or W sound (clashes with surname)
Not ambiguous to say/spell
Vintage or classic name
Has nickname options.
Middle name will be Elsie

So after a LOT of researching a name came to me out of nowhere. It's very unusual and a vintage girl name. I love it and Husband does. However when I look it up on websites, it seems to be a name people either love, or hate.
So now I'm doubting myself.
Do I just go with the name that feels right, and that meets my criteria and brace myself for a few possibly insensitive/negative comments OR just go back to the drawing board again?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rachelover40 · 23/07/2019 22:36

Nice! I like it.
Got this from wiki:
Araminta is a rare feminine given name, a cross between Aminta and Arabella meaning prayer and protection.

viques · 23/07/2019 22:36

I used to teach a little Stanley, the other children ,nursery age ,couldn't get their tongues round it for some reason, so he was Stamley....

popehilarious · 23/07/2019 22:35

I also think of Moondial!

teenmum18 · 23/07/2019 22:35

I'm not a fan it sounds like a flavoured rice to me Confused and no way does it go with Stanley!
But it's your choice so go for it if you like it.

BettyUnderswoobs · 23/07/2019 22:35

Araminta: Comedy posh girl/Sloane name from the 80s. Also harsh and unattractive sounding.

Stanley: working class old man name.

I don't like either and they definitely don't go together imo.

blahblahblabblahblah100 · 23/07/2019 22:34

I worked with a Aramintia, but she went by Tia.
We called our son with the risk of people negatively commenting...I couldn't care less as we loved it.
If you both love the name, then use it 😊

NotStayingIn · 23/07/2019 22:34

When I read Araminta on page 1 I wasn’t 100% sure and now on page 3 I really like it.

So that grew on me rather quickly! I really like it.

Atalune · 23/07/2019 22:33

I know 2. Minty for short. Suits them very well.

KindnessCrusader · 23/07/2019 22:33

I LOVE the name Araminta!

twirlsinfrock · 23/07/2019 22:33

It sounds beautiful. Unique, quirky, classy. Go for it. Worst comes to worst and your daughter herself doesn't like it (as could be the case for any name really), there are lots of nicknames, as you suggest.

HarryRug · 23/07/2019 22:33

Stanley is a timeless name which much like George/Edward/Thomas/Arthur transcends all classes and times. Fantastic name.
Araminta is a beautiful, feminine name and goes perfectly with Stanley. Great names, well chosen. We have a DS with a traditional name like those I mention above and a DD with a pretty and feminine name. Go for it.

Spotsandstars · 23/07/2019 22:32

I like the name but it does not go with Elsie.

merlotqueen · 23/07/2019 22:32

Not ambiguous to say/spell Confused

It is exactly this. Please don't call your child this name.

It does not go with Elsie.

If you do call her this name, please don't tell people beforehand.

Nonnymum · 23/07/2019 22:32

ceecee32of course it's not a made up name. It is a real old name. Use op OP if you love it, it's a perfectly acceptable name. Not to everyone's taste but then nothing is.

MohairMenace · 23/07/2019 22:31

I second the ‘upstairs, downstairs’ thing.

runlift · 23/07/2019 22:31

How about Allegra? I think araminta is fine, probably would grow on me.

Luckingfovely · 23/07/2019 22:31

Have to agree that as much as I like the name, it's literally polar opposites from Stanley. I'm struggling to think of two names more worlds apart, in fact. But still, if you love it, why the hell not?

tulippa · 23/07/2019 22:31

I don't think it goes with Elsie. Too many vowel sounds.

ILikePaperHats · 23/07/2019 22:31

Araminta does not go with Stanley at all!

Colourfulest · 23/07/2019 22:30

My OH has a cousin ages around 3/4 named Araminta nn Minty. I wasn't sure about it at first but you get used to names pretty quick. I really like it now!

Aquamarine1029 · 23/07/2019 22:30

I actually really like it, and I love Minty as nn. Go for it!

zen1 · 23/07/2019 22:29

I also remember it from Moondial. I quite like Minty as a shortening.

LostInNorfolk · 23/07/2019 22:28

Very hooray name. Are you?

Vinosaurus · 23/07/2019 22:28

Great names - only thing I'd say was that one's vintage upper class and the other vintage working class - so you may get some "upstairs downstairs" comments or alike!

separatebeds · 23/07/2019 22:28

I love this name. I know 2 Minty's.
