Hello

We are due our second little girl in December, we already have a Sophia ( middle name rose) I absolutely love the name Lucia but worried because of the rhyme with Sophia and also stuck for a short one syllable middle name to go with it.
My husband likes Lucie but I feel it’s not unusual enough so thought Lucia would be a great choice as it would get shortened sometimes to Lucie anyway ! Opinions gratefully received.
Thanks

Lucette?

AverageMummy · 24/07/2019 21:17

Lucienne is also beautiful

Bol87 · 24/07/2019 20:12

I like Lucie & I actually like it spelt more unusually.. which is rare for me. Usually I like a classic spelling.

I don’t know a baby Lucy I have to say. It was popular in my year group at school back in the 90’s/00’s but you don’t hear it so much these days.

The latest 2019 baby charts has Sophia at no.6 and Lucy at 42.. the spelling Lucie is not in the top 100.

I’ve only ever known Lucia pronounced lu-chee-a which I much prefer!

I think Lucy is probably on a par with Sophia in popularity, possibly less so tbh

Dls17950 · 23/07/2019 16:48

I love Luciana too but we have a really long surname Smile

I know a Lucia (loo-sea-a) and she is never calked Lucy. I love Luciana.

Fatkins · 23/07/2019 16:16

Lucy and Sophia sound great together! Neither of them are super out there names, but I think that's a good thing sometimes.

Lucy is a classic and won't date. I think Lucia might do, as it's having a moment.

badtime · 23/07/2019 15:27

In addition to the pronunciations already mentioned, l have met people called Lucia pronounced 'lu-thee-a' (Spanish) and 'loot-see-a' (Slavic, I think Slovakian).

Skyejuly · 23/07/2019 14:57

Lucinda?

mistermagpie · 23/07/2019 14:52

What about Lucinda? I love that name and it's not one you hear much.

JJSMC · 23/07/2019 14:23

The Loo-chee-a pronunciation wouldn't occur to me. I've only ever heard it pronounced as Loo-see-a, and much prefer this as well. But then it would be too close to your other daughters name, in my opinion. Luciana is lovely as an alternative but personally I'd go with Lucie x

Pinktinker · 23/07/2019 13:54

No it’s really weird. Someone I vaguely know has a Millie and Mollie, I find that weird enough.

Dls17950 · 23/07/2019 13:06

I think reading your thoughts I agree Sophia and Lucia are to same/ matching etc Hmm

I think Lucie ( or spelt Lucy ) will sit lovely

Thanks

So is Lucie pronounced Lucy?

daisypond · 23/07/2019 12:36

Lucia and Sophia are too matchy. I’d put Sophia and Lucy in the same bracket of popularity. Lucy is a nice name. I wouldn’t spell it Lucie. Lucinda?

devilishlygood · 23/07/2019 12:14

Not ‘unusual enough’?? But Sophia has been in the top tiers for over a decade!! I don’t think unusual should be a concern...

But sure, your babies....

Whitepoppies · 23/07/2019 10:55

I love Lucia! It's pretty but feel it's a bit too similar to Sophia.

There are several ways to pronounce this name.

Dls17950 · 23/07/2019 10:41

Thank you for your opinions !! Much appreciated

I love Luciana !! However we have a very long three syllable surname which with a middle name too would be quite a mouthful......

The hubbies response is " what about just Lucie ?" Which I agree sounds the best with Sophia but I'm not convinced it's unusual enough for me.

I have an old friend called Clara, that's how she introduces herself that's what we call her. However at home she's Clair-a. She finds it really quite embarrassing.

It's generally best to go with established pronunciation.

Lilyannarose · 23/07/2019 09:52

I've seen it pronounced four different ways.
Lucy-a
Loo-see-a (which is my favourite, but does rhyme with Sophia)
Loo-chee-a
Loosha

I love Lucy/ Lucie and think that goes lovely with Sophia.
I also think Luciana (pronounced Lucy-arna) is very pretty.
Then there is Lucinda.

SE13Mummy · 23/07/2019 01:09

Sophia and Lucie go well together, I'd definitely go for Lucie over Lucia or Luciana. Here in SE London I know more girls named Lucia than I do Lucy/ie and none of them is shortened to Lucy/ie but to Luchie (loo-chee).

I'm not really a fan of rhyming names, not least because children who aren't paying attention might only hear the last syllable of the name... and decide the instruction was for their sibling e.g. Johnny and Ronnie both hear 'nee' and switch off. If it was Johnny and Max, that wouldn't be an issue.

MmeBufo · 23/07/2019 00:55

Yes, Lucia is lo-Chee-a. Sometimes mispronounced Lucy-a

Luciana is a brilliant suggestion , beautiful

wafflyversatile · 23/07/2019 00:54

I think Sophia and Lucia are fine. (as long as its pronounced loo chee ah)
