PLEASE HELP

We are expecting our first child and it’s a boy!! But we can’t decide in a name!!

Our surname is BURNS

And can you help us decide from our list of five please???

  1. Cooper
  2. Bennett
  3. Charlie
  4. Samuel
  5. Casper

Love Charlie Burns
Like Samuel Burns
Dislike Bennett/Benneit Burns. It's too much and I just don't like the name Bennett.
Cooper isn't to my taste either.
Casper is a big no from me.
Are you open to suggestions?
Owen Burns?
Isaac Burns?
Aidan Burns?

Thank you sooo much!! Yeah Bennett is divisive and either people love it or hate it!! We are both Scottish and have found an old Scottish spelling of Bennett as Benneit and we both love it, but still can’t decide if it is too much with Burns!!

Our close friends and family are also very split on the name!!

Thanks for your suggestion as well and it will give us more to think of, and all the other posts have been great as well with Charlie and Samuel really sticking out but not sure if these two names are a bit to common for our liking!!

But this has definitely helped so please keep your thoughts coming!! Much love to all x

I only like Casper.

Definitely not Bennett Burns.

I really like Casper/Caspar, but I think I would rule it out with the surname as I seem to end up saying -spur -Bur in a way that makes it seem repetitive when I say the two names together: CaSPER BURns. Maybe that's just me! The name Cooper is giving me the same effect, but to a lesser degree: CooPER BURns. It's definitely not a big deal, but when you have some other lovely choices too, it would rule those names out for me.

Charlie is just always lovely. I also like Samuel and think it sounds quite smart with Burns.

Bennett Burns is going to be a divider in terms of opinions, I think- aren't alliterative names often divisive? In general, I love them actually. I do think Bennett is a lovely name too, but strangely with Burns I don't love it as much, or as much as I usually love alliterative names. The name alone puts me in mind of Jane Austen and lovely literature though, so that's a really nice association. You didn't ask for suggestions so I am a little reluctant to give any, but I wonder if you considered Benji? It has the same starting sound and alliteration as Bennett, with the same end sound as Charlie, and I like it with Burns.

Best of luck with your choice! I think you have love options to work with.

  3. Casper - not really my cup of tea but still a nice name
  1. Cooper - it is ok and sounds good with Burns. Not mad keen on surnames as first names but I put it slightly above Bennett because I live in Oz and there are tonnes of Coopers here so does seem to have established itself as a first name.
  2. Bennett - truly awful, esp with Burns.

Burns as a surname makes it tricky, for some reason when you say the names aloud.

I wouldn't use Samuel; like others have said, he'll be called SunBurns.

I like Bennett, but too much 'B' alliteration/hard sound in Bennett Burns. Just doesn't sound nice.

Charlie is nice and works, but the name is quite popular. (And most of the Charlies I know are quite naughty.) My favourite from the three 'C' names that work with Burns. Then Cooper, then Casper. I've just never warmed to Casper as a name.

  2. Bennett - absolutely love this name, but not with Burns. Emmett as an alternative?
  3. Charlie- too many Charlie's around.
  4. Samuel - yes I like it , but he'll become Sam...Sam Burns...Sun Burns
  5. Casper- out of all of your names this is the one I would choose.

Definitely Charlie! It's the loveliest name in my opinion, and goes best with your last name. Bennett Burns doesn't work imo. And Caspar Burns and Cooper Burns are a bit of a mouthful because of the P in the middle of both Caspar and Cooper.
