What do you guys think of the name eva or evie? Which is better? We were thinking we like mae/ mai for a middle name or double barreled name is nice to. Eve is abit common tho I think. Thoughts thanks

I like both but they are definitely extremely popular. When DD's ballet teacher gave out certificates at the end of term, half the class stood up every time she said "Evie". So it depends how bothered you are about popularity vs uniqueness.

Elsahappy3 · 23/07/2019 18:32

Eva is the nicest of them , but it's overused

midsomermurderess · 23/07/2019 18:03

It's funny to here Eve described as common when I never encountered another one until the recent rise in its popularity. I do actually prefer Eve. Eva and Evie can be used as diminutives (if that's is appropriate for such short names).

MikeUniformMike · 22/07/2019 20:50

I like Eve and Evie but not Eva, Evelyn or Evangeline.
They are overused.
-Mae/Mai is a bit downmmarket and May is overused as a mn.
Ev Ma is likely to be known as Ev* Surname.

MeMeMeYou · 22/07/2019 20:37

Evie-May/Mae is v v popular. Eva is nice and much less popular

AloneLonelyLoner · 22/07/2019 20:34

In my daughter's nursery class there were 14 girls, 7 (yes 50%) of them were called Evie, Eve or Eva. My other daughter (4 years older) had two in her class.

Avoid avoid.

daisypond · 22/07/2019 14:09

Eve is nice but dull now, because it’s 20 years behind the curve. I know a few in their early 20s. Evie is cutesy as a name in itself. May is also nice but don’t spell it Mai or Mae. It’s been overused as a middle name for years though. It’s better as a first name.

Pinktinker · 22/07/2019 13:46

Mae is also one of the most common middle names imaginable so Evie Mae is like common name bingo really.

Pinktinker · 22/07/2019 13:45

Too common, they’re absolutely everywhere and have been for a decade. Lots in my DC’s school.

Kittykatmacbill · 22/07/2019 13:20

There will be an absolute tonne of girls with the same name. But Eve is the nicest of them but not with May as a middle name.

AE18 · 22/07/2019 10:34

I like them all but Evie is a very common name and hyphenating with Mae is even more common. Just using one of the two would be fair enough but using both will pretty much give her the most stereotypical girl of her age name going. I'd use a different middle name.

starkid · 22/07/2019 10:27

Nor Mae

starkid · 22/07/2019 10:27

Eve, but not double-barrelled or teamed with May/Mai as a middle name. Eve Marie is nice? :)

bwydda · 22/07/2019 09:12

Eva is my favourite. Though both Eva and eve are beautiful classic names.

Shadow1234 · 22/07/2019 08:46

From your list I would choose Eva.

Ava is a close alternative (not sure if that's just as popular as I haven't met one irl)

Colourfulest · 22/07/2019 08:24

Yawn. Sorry. You could pick any as they all sound the same now.

georgialondon · 22/07/2019 08:24

Definitely Eva.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 22/07/2019 08:10

I also agree that they are everywhere-

DD has so many friends with some form of Evie/Eve that we have to add
something to differentiate smart evie

Olajs · 22/07/2019 08:05

All really overused. 20 years ago all three were elegant and classic but uncommon. Now they are everywhere and have been for over 10 years.

Heratnumber7 · 22/07/2019 07:56

Eva/Evie Mae has been discussed on here so many times. I'd find something less common popular. Or if you must, May, not Mae.

Earlybed · 22/07/2019 00:21

Eva. (Pronounced 'Eeva' or 'Ayva' though?). Aoife another variation?

Like Eve too. Not many round my way.

username1724 · 22/07/2019 00:10

Love all of then. Eva is my favourite though!

Astronica · 22/07/2019 00:00

Eva is my first choice, Eve 2nd, and you can use Evie for a nn if you like. Don't hyphenate - you can use Mae (though I love the May spelling best) for a middle name.

DramaAlpaca · 21/07/2019 23:55

Eva & Eve are international, elegant & classy, if a tad popular. But please don't hyphenate with Mae/Mai, it'll ruin a beautiful name.

Frith2013 · 21/07/2019 23:52

Boring and common.
