I am going to go against the grain and say I don't like it much. I am of Scandinavian descent myself and have known 2 Tilde and 1 Tilda its not names I am keen on (nor am I keen on Matilde/a or Tilly)

I do agree the Scandinavian pronunciation is subtle between the Tilde/Tilda names

& yes I think it will get lost in the many Tilly/Matilda's

@Lunde "The difference in Scandi pronunciation is pretty subtle"

I don't think it's subtle, that's why I like Tilda more ;)
Can't really explain why though. Somehow Tilda flows nicer, I think. Tilde sounds more strict to me.

Namechangedonceagain · 21/07/2019 06:48

It's nice but I think it will get a bit lost in a sea of Matilda/Tilda/Tilly's

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/07/2019 02:18

Is the e at the end pronounced like in German. In which case I really like it.

Lunde · 21/07/2019 02:06

SmartPlay - I think Tilda is nicer than Tilde.

The difference in Scandi pronunciation is pretty subtle

Tild-a .... v ...... Tild-eh

Beekeeper1 · 21/07/2019 00:55

I love it...but then I am biased! My partner's name is Batilda ( old Nordic and Germanic name meaning 'woman warrior'), shortened to Tilder

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 21/07/2019 00:49

I love the name Tilde. Also Tekla, which was my grandmother's sister's name. Also Nordic. My grandmother was born and raised in Finland but Swedish was her first language.

historysock · 21/07/2019 00:38

Love

wigglybluelines · 21/07/2019 00:20

Oh, I love Tilde!

SmartPlay · 21/07/2019 00:15

I think Tilda is nicer than Tilde.

Lunde · 20/07/2019 23:46

I really like this name which has become popular in its own right in recent years in Scandi and not just as a nickname for Matilda/ Mathilda /Matilde/Mathilde

In Sweden
6821 are called Tilde
7518 - are called Tilda

added to
36908 are called Matilda
9125 are called Mathilda
699 are called Matilde
1070 are called Mathilde

LimitIsUp · 20/07/2019 23:28

It's a yes from me

Nettleweed · 20/07/2019 23:26

I think it’s pretty.

OhEliza · 20/07/2019 23:21

Lovely name. Some people might assume she's a Matilda, but I don't think that's a problem?

diplodoco · 20/07/2019 23:20

It's lovely!

minisoksmakehardwork · 20/07/2019 23:17

Hanna Alström played the character of Princess Tilde in the Kingsman films. i think it's a pretty name and is connected to your heritage. Once you've sorted out pronunciation (Til-Dee?) and it wont bother you correcting the few people you don't know (not that its a reason to dismiss a name imo), I'd go for it.

popehilarious · 20/07/2019 23:13

Yeah or she could be the new la-dash-a Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2019 23:12

It sounds like a perfectly nice name but in the U.K. because of ~ it might be misjudged as like the parents who (supposedly) named their child Ampersand.

And then there's Asterisk the Gaul...

Herocomplex · 20/07/2019 23:07

Ha popehilarious you beat me to it! She could have a sister called Dot?

wigglybluelines · 20/07/2019 23:06

Love it :) Beautiful name.

FamilyOfAliens · 20/07/2019 23:06

Frith2013 · 20/07/2019 23:05

Yes, I like it.

YeOldeTrout · 20/07/2019 23:04

I had an Norwegian distant aunt who was Tilda (Tilly). I understood it to be a Norwegian name in its own right...

CatteStreet · 20/07/2019 23:03

(That was supposed to point to the punctuation)
