Hello! I love the name Harper, but I can't help associate it a lot with the Beckhams.. thoughts?

Hester would make me think of Uncle Fester, but then young kids might not have heard of him.

I’m not fond of Harper.

AnonymousP · 21/07/2019 07:59

How about Piper instead? Love that!

Astronica · 21/07/2019 07:28

Though I don't mind this style of name and quite like the sounds, it has become too trendy, and yes, first thought is the Beckhams.

99bb · 20/07/2019 22:45

I’m a big TKAM fan so always had it as a dream middle name for one day down the line...then the Beckhams totally wrecked it 😂

daisypond · 20/07/2019 21:22

How about Hester?

AllStar14 · 20/07/2019 21:09

I know two toddlers called Harper. I like it, I don't love it. Much prefer Scout if we're going with a TKAMB theme :-)

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 20/07/2019 21:08

ah shame.

while I do get the beckham association I love the name

mmmmbopp · 20/07/2019 21:07

Haha ok well you've all managed to put me off it! (Which is fine, I wanted honesty Smile)

OP posts:
Lavenderblues · 20/07/2019 21:05

Awful and unfeminine, sorry.

margosims · 20/07/2019 20:45

A bit boring and popular for my liking. Not a very cute name doesn't help when every Harper I know has obnoxious parents either

bigmap · 20/07/2019 20:37

Depends on your accent. It's ok if you pronounce the R at the end but not great if you pronounce it "haw-pa". (I'm not British so not sure what accent I'm doing there but hope you know what I mean)

boosterrooster · 20/07/2019 20:34

I like it. I do think of the Beckhams but would put me off the name

Frith2013 · 20/07/2019 20:33

It’s a no from me.

daisypond · 20/07/2019 20:25

Assuming the OP is in the UK, it gives off the opposite vibe. Not private school and buttoned-down shirts and aiming for elite universities.

Obsidian77 · 20/07/2019 20:23

No, sorry. Dreadful name. I just don't like the way the word sounds.
But chances are we'll never meet and even if we did, I wouldn't comment on your child's name Wink

Flooopers · 20/07/2019 20:21

Preppy as a concept is American.

daisypond · 20/07/2019 20:20

Surnames as girls' first names is quite a preppy thing to do, so... Maybe in the US. Not in the UK.

BuildBuildings · 20/07/2019 20:19

I think surnames for first names are quite tacky. But if you love it do what you want.

Babdoc · 20/07/2019 20:17

Your call, OP, but she will be forever known as Harpic by schoolmates.

Flooopers · 20/07/2019 20:15

Surnames as girls' first names is quite a preppy thing to do, so...

IHeartKingThistle · 20/07/2019 20:14

It doesn't work in so many accents. I'm really not sure about it and I love TKAMB too.

I'd use Jean (Louise) though!

daisypond · 20/07/2019 20:13

Amazed anyone thinks the name Harper is preppy! It’s the complete opposite.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/07/2019 20:12

Harpy
Harpic
and the Beckhams.

I have a literature degree and still think of these before Harper Lee tbh

Flooopers · 20/07/2019 20:10

Too Beckham-y.

Blythe
Hadley
Piper
Blair
Sloan

all have a similar preppy vibe to me
