Margaret, Morag or Jean?

soundsystem · 20/07/2019 17:24

Margaret would get shorted to Margot, Greta or Peggy, depending on which best suited her.

Morag would just be Morag. (Though DD1 has suggested she might call her Morag the Toerag)

Jean might become Jeannie.

Give me your thoughts, please!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

They're not to my taste, but I can appreciate them, if that makes sense.
They are names I associate with older relatives, which is nice.

Although, I don't like nicknames at all - especially Peggy, and I've no idea how on earth it's derived from 'Margaret'? Confused

What about Jane? Or Kitty (Katherine/Catherine)

Charlotte is beautiful as a mn

MrsMozartMkII · 21/07/2019 09:32

Jean 💕

Was my Geordie Mam's name. A strong, tough, intelligent lady, who could be kind, caring and compassionate.

soundsystem · 21/07/2019 09:30

@Badabingbadabum I have Scottish accent which is possibly why Morag doesn't sound harsh to me! I don't live in Scotland though so possibly should get people round here to say it before we decide!

Charlotte

TatianaLarina · 21/07/2019 09:22

Dreadful.

Margot and Greta are nice though.

Oh goodness I am with you 100% Millie-May and Olivia and Gracie are not my taste at all. Too frilly and over used.

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/07/2019 09:11

As for the, "ew, they make me think of old women" type comments... there's nothing wrong with old women

Depends on the old women you have met with these names.

All complete harridans

DonkeyHohtay · 21/07/2019 09:08

They're all a LOT better than the cutesy cutesy Tilly-Rose, Ava-Grace, Olivia-May style names.

Personally, I'd go for Margaret with Meg as a shortening. Other two are fine as well.

Chocolatedaim · 21/07/2019 09:05

Jean 💙👍🏻

soundsystem · 21/07/2019 09:01

@BrendasUmbrella I think you called it right!

If his was our first DC my top name choice would be Deirdre but it really doesn't go with our other children! I think those sorts of names are due a come back!

Thanks for all your thoughts!

@BarryBarryTaylor My gran was also a Jean and sounds not dissimilar to yours! So Jean to me is tough/no nonsense but also warm and feminine.

Love Jean then Morag. We used the name Jean!

Jellystars · 21/07/2019 08:38

I’m not too keen on any but I do like the possible nicknames for Margaret - Peggy is my favourite.

SweetJasmine17 · 21/07/2019 08:37

They're all hideous, but Gretal would be fine

PineappleSeahorse · 21/07/2019 08:20

They're all ugly.

user1493494961 · 21/07/2019 08:03

Name her Charlotte.

rainbowstardrops · 21/07/2019 07:34

Sorry Morag!!! I don't like Margot either Grin

rainbowstardrops · 21/07/2019 07:33

I like Jean. I'm not keen on Margaret but Maggie is ok. Really don't like Margot

Astronica · 21/07/2019 07:22

I love Morag and Jean. And Greta - which I would use as is. As others have said Charlotte doesn't work with Margaret, but Greta Charlotte is lovely.

icecreamsundae32 · 21/07/2019 06:36

@soundsystem I'd agree with @LottieLucie "Charlotte Jean"
I'm sorry but think Morag is awful. Morag the toerag is funny though.
Margot is not my cup of tea but is becoming more popular, it's better than Margaret, Greta or Peggy though!
Jean sounds plain. Jane is nicer lol.

origamiunicorn · 21/07/2019 05:34

I really dislike Morag sorry, it's just such a harsh sounding name.

Gingerkittykat · 21/07/2019 05:32

I love Jean, I had actually wondered if that name would come back into fashion.

Margaret is meh, Maggie or Peggy are lovely though. Margot too twee and middle class.

Morag, a nice strong Scottish name.

Namechangedonceagain · 21/07/2019 05:23

Definitely not Morag or Margaret! Margaret nns are nice but full name is really horrible. And Morag? Unless she's going to be born and overweight, single, eccentric art teacher in her fifties I'd cross that one off too. Jean is okay but very boring. June is nicer. I'd personally go for one of the nns you had planned for Margaret.

Oliversmumsarmy · 20/07/2019 23:22

Definitely not Jean

I know a couple of Jeans.

They live up to the name Mean Jean so can’t take it seriously

Morag and Margaret aren’t exactly doing it for me either.

Both very old woman type names

Parsnippy · 20/07/2019 23:17

Sorry, I don't like Morag not Margot. Morag sounds witchy.
