Think it is between these two for if baby is a boy but can't decide. Big brother is James. I think I maybe prefer Sam to Gabe but not sure if it would get shortened anyway.

Gabriel

Gabriel. I don't like Samuel at all. However its not my baby and if you prefer Sam to Gabe you're probably best with Samuel.
Also to the poster who said Gabriel is middle class. Years ago I would have said that, but not now. What I'm about to say is not meant with any disrespect. It just a factual observation.
I was in a certain supermarket a few weeks ago and heard a mother yelling "Gabriel, pack it in. you're doing me head in, now". She wouldn't have looked out of place on the Jeremy Kyle show, to be perfectly honest.

Like both but Samuel is extremely popular so I’d go for Gabriel.

Love them both.

I think (probably unpopular opinion) that Samuel is slightly more class-neutral. Gabriel, IMO, would go down fine if you live in a solidly middle-class area. Of the two, I prefer Gabriel.

Both are great for being easily translatable into other European languages.

I say James and Samual go better together, although I do prefer Gabe over Sam.

I prefer Samuel and think it sounds better with James.
I don't like Gabriel although I do like GabeConfused
Overall I'd choose Samuel nn Sam.
