Gabriel or Samuel

Think it is between these two for if baby is a boy but can't decide. Big brother is James. I think I maybe prefer Sam to Gabe but not sure if it would get shortened anyway.

Chocolatedaim he was almost 11lb at birth but it was all his very long heavy limbs and huge head! I am very average size so was stunned I could grow one so big, I still don't know how I pushed the blighter out Grin! My fav Gabriel is Gabriel Oake from Far From the Madding Crowd as well as the archangel of course.

Bedforaweek · 28/07/2019 22:14

Gabriel is beautiful. Sadly for me two very good friends used it first.

Benes · 28/07/2019 22:11

I have a Samuel and despite what others have posted we've not found it to be particularly popular. We liked it because there are options - we call him Samuel but others call him sam or Sammy. All work well. We felt it was a name that worked well as an adult as well as a child.

MissB83 · 28/07/2019 22:06

Gabriel is a strong name because that is literally what it means! It is Hebrew for "god is my strength".

MissB83 · 28/07/2019 22:04

I have a Gabriel Smile family call him Gaby.

Chocolatedaim · 22/07/2019 08:11

He was born a long baby and has always been tall, it seems a strong masculine name to me.

It’s really interesting to hear you say this Idabwells we are planning on naming DS Gabriel and at our 36weeks growth scan, he was measuring at the top of the scale in femur and humorous length. 😂

IdaBWells · 22/07/2019 08:08

I have a Gabriel who is currently 13 and 5’ 10”. He went by Gabey the Baby (as the youngest) then Gabe, and to my surprise has recently asked us to call him Gabriel.

I also love Samuel as it is my nephews name! If my brother hadn’t used it first we might have.

My son has always had a lot of compliments on his name. He was born a long baby and has always been tall, it seems a strong masculine name to me. DH suggested it the day before he was born.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 22/07/2019 08:01

Funny - these were two out of the three names on our shortlist. (We chose the third name.)

I'd definitely go for Gabriel.

TatianaLarina · 22/07/2019 07:58

Gabriel hands down. Samuel is dull and 100s of Sams.

Bristolgal · 22/07/2019 05:38

Samuel 💖

ButterflyOfFreedom · 21/07/2019 16:13

I prefer Gabriel though wouldn't shorten to Gabe.
Though Samuel goes better with James imo.

SemperIdem · 21/07/2019 16:12

I much prefer Gabriel

Astronica · 21/07/2019 07:23

I prefer Samuel and Sam.

PantTwizzler · 20/07/2019 23:14

I like both but love Gabriel.

I thought I was having a Gabriel but to my surprise she wasn’t.

Sophronia · 20/07/2019 23:12

I have a Samuel. I’d say it’s a bit more classic than Gabriel which is more newly popular.

DulciUke · 20/07/2019 17:55

I like both. I'm not really sure why one of them needs to "go" with his brother's name, though.

HenSolo · 20/07/2019 17:52

I love both, I have a Samuel and love it, but it is very common at the moment so would go Gabriel

icecreamsundae32 · 20/07/2019 17:49

Prefer Samuel!
James & Samuel

Peachbubble · 20/07/2019 17:17

Samuel - not a fan of Gabriel, or Gabe.

bossyboo · 20/07/2019 17:02

Samuel for definite. I have a Samuel and yes we all call him Sam - apart from his dad but Sam is a great name on its own anyway. I've never come across a 'bad' Sam!! Smile

mumonthehill · 20/07/2019 16:42

I have a Gabriel. Everyone calls him gabe and we definitely do not live in a middle class area! Much nicer than Sam

PixieLumos · 20/07/2019 16:39

Both are nice, but Samuel will definitely get shortened to Sam at some point. Gabriel is better I think.

Yellowweatherwarning · 20/07/2019 16:36

I have a Gabriel, adult and never been Gabe.
We know a Samuel and it's always pronounced Samule!

Equatoria · 20/07/2019 16:30

Gabriel

ZenNudist · 20/07/2019 15:02

Both good. Samuel will be sam all his life depends how you feel about this.
