Can I have a Magnus and a Fergus?

NC for this as it's very outing!

I have two sons, Magnus and Hamish, I love both of their names. I am now pregnant again and totally stuck for names.

We love Fergus (we are in Scotland btw, in case anyone is sensing a theme!) but can I have a Magnus and a Fergus? They are so similar sounding.

If not - any ideas for boys or girls names that would 'go' with my other two? I know some people hate matching set names but we've sort of gone down that road already!

Ewan? any spelling variants

MrsDimmond · 19/07/2019 16:46

Sorry just noticed Angus has already been suggested.

MrsDimmond · 19/07/2019 16:44

Angus?

oldfatgreycat · 19/07/2019 16:38

Gregor/ Gregory

CallMeRachel · 19/07/2019 16:36

I'm in Scotland and this Fergus goes well and not at all matchy. I know of one who's a teenager now and goes by Ferg or Fergie.

Alternatives could be Campbell, Struan, Angus, Alistair, Gordon?

Awrite · 19/07/2019 16:17

Love, love Magnus and Hamish.

Fergus not a patch on those two.

What about Alexander and then Alex or Xander as nn?

mintich · 19/07/2019 16:16

I'd go for Fergus but it is one if my favourite names! How about Rory? Either spelling!

littlemeitslyn · 19/07/2019 16:06

I like the name

TankGirl97 · 19/07/2019 15:51

I have a Felix and no one has ever meowed at him!!

I think Magnus and Fergus are fine for brothers and both lovely names.

PineappleSeahorse · 19/07/2019 15:45

Not to my tastes but if you're looking for something a little different a friend has a Tavish.

TeachesOfPeaches · 19/07/2019 15:35

I have a Magnus and get lots of compliments !

Deadringer · 19/07/2019 15:35

What about Stewart, that's a great Scottish name. Ian is nice but a bit plain compared to your other names maybe? Callum is lovely imo.

IsobelRae23 · 19/07/2019 15:32

Shaun?

IfNot · 19/07/2019 15:31

Magnus, Hamish and Felix is great! Fergus reminds me of Fungus the Bogeyman.
Love Felix.

nameshelp · 19/07/2019 15:29

Magnus was a family name and I just loved Hamish.

Duncan was my first choice but DH vetoed it!

I have a wee Robbie, he is awesome Smile

TeaForTheWin · 19/07/2019 15:23

Oh gosh not felix, everyone will meow after him in the playground lol.

Ps: did you get Magnus from the shadowhunters series?

PineappleSeahorse · 19/07/2019 15:22

Felix is lovely. Much nicer than Fergus.

MrsDimmond · 19/07/2019 15:20

I see no problem with Magnus, Hamish and Fergus.
Great names!
I love Duncan too.

nameshelp · 19/07/2019 15:13

I love Cameron but DH does not. DH loves Struan but I do not.

I like Ailsa!

All the Douglas/Dougal's that we know (and surprisingly there are a few) end up as Dougie which I hate.

What about Felix? It's not scottish but I like it.

Missed that you know lots of Eilidhs!

Is Alisa still popular? Cara? I’m Irish and it means “friend” so assume it’s similar in Gaelic.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 19/07/2019 15:07

Cameron
Fraser
Callum
Logan

For girls: (avoiding Isla as that’s what all baby girls seem to be called!)

Rhona
Eilidh
Catriona
Mhairi

PineappleSeahorse · 19/07/2019 15:06

I met a boy called Muir recently. I'd never have considered it but it really suited him. Of course it depends upon your surname.

PineappleSeahorse · 19/07/2019 15:03

Struan?

PineappleSeahorse · 19/07/2019 15:02

They're too similar and also Fergus is such an unattractive name.
