Indie, Posy or Kaia

I started a thread about Indie, and have decided that if we go for Indie she will be Indie as a full name.
These are our other options. I realise they are not to everyone's taste, but we've realised after months of agonising that we don't really like traditional names.
Kaia (pronounced K-eye-ah) has links to Hawaii (Kai is Hawaiian for sea) which we like as we have family there.
Posy I just think is adorable and love the nickname Po. I could imagine an adult Posy too.
Opinions welcome!

Indie is nice.

Not a fan of Posie, it reminds me of the 'ring a ring a Rosie's' rhyme that dates back to the Great Plague Confused

Colourfulest · 19/07/2019 19:21

@Clownfish123 I don't think many or even any would think it's made up.

Bob Marley has the famous album and song 'Kaya'. And then you have the very famous model Kaia Gerber, who is the daughter of Cindy Crawford. So it's well known by enough people now.

I mentioned it to loads of people whilst pregnant last year as it was the front runner for a while. Not one person hadn't heard of it!

Bubbletrouble43 · 19/07/2019 19:21

I love Posy, never met one! Lovely name.

afrikat · 19/07/2019 19:09

I love Indie. We seriously considered Indiana for our daughter, nn Indie. She would have rocked it

Clownfish123 · 19/07/2019 19:06

The spelling of Kaia doesn't put me off. Its quicker than describing how to spell Catherine/Katharine/Kathryn. I'm more concerned about how the name is perceived. Would people think it's made up etc.

My DH is Irish and is completely against Josephine. He said over there it is very old fashioned and he can't imagine it on a little girl. Otherwise I would consider it as I like Posy and Josie.
Persephone is a bit posh for us. I would consider Rose and Posy as a nickname but I just think is there any point? Might as well just use Posy or it will be confusing her whole life.
I have a nickname that my parents used since birth and to be honest my actual name is more of a pain. I forget which name to give (work only know the nickname whereas bank is all formal name etc)

I think about independence when I hear Indie too. It's all 'Indyref 2' up here! 🙄

I don't like the others either sorry. She'll spend her life spelling Kaia and Posy is a bit silly.

coco123456789 · 19/07/2019 18:56

I love Posy. It’s a ‘proper’ name whereas the others are a bit more of the Jayden / Aimee genre to me... Posy can also be short for Persephone but that’s a bit posh! Someone mentioned Josephine - I have heard that name a few times recently and think it is going to become popular soon. It’s very pretty and also Josephine March from Little Women is a total heroine!

Clownfish123 · 19/07/2019 18:51

@pikapikachu - yeah in my (southern English) accent it rhymes with Fire and the name Mya.

The comments round Scottish independence are putting me off a bit. I really dont want Indie to be associated with Nationalism in any sense.
Thanks for all the comments everyone, lots to consider. I was surprised to see on the name stats that Indie is far more common as a name than Posy. Posy is virtually unheard of it seems. Surprised me.

no different to Lily or Poppy or any other flower that ends in

Posy us not a flower though. It is more like naming someone ‘Bouquet’ or ‘Bunch’.

TatianaLarina · 19/07/2019 18:13

Posy.

Indie isn’t a name.

verystressedmum · 19/07/2019 18:05

I'm not keen on posy but prefer posie
Love Kaia
Indie is ok but prefer indiana then you can shorten to indie

mamaoffourdc · 19/07/2019 18:01

I have an indie ❤️

pikapikachu · 19/07/2019 17:52

K-eye-uh sounds like K-eye-ah in my accent. (I'm from down south) Does Kaia rhyme with fire? (Again in a Southern accent)

daisypond · 19/07/2019 17:12

I like Kaia and Posy. Indie is too cutesy. I don’t find Posy cutesy at all - it’s a real flower word, no different to Lily or Poppy or any other flower that ends in Y.

Medicaltextbook · 19/07/2019 15:16

Indie - makes me think of independent newspaper or the Scottish referendum (didn’t watch Indiana Jones).

Posy - think of a little girl, Ballet Shoes book

Kaia- think I know how to pronounce, but not sure. May get tedious spelling it for people (I have that problem).

elliandher5 · 19/07/2019 15:04

some people are such bores! probably have children named Oliver and Grace or something (nothing against them names)

I looooooove Indie. It's gorgeous my fave gooooooooo for it.
Posy - I would spell it Posie but lovely too.
Kaia - nice connection and nice name but I'd go with the name you truly love.

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/07/2019 15:03

Love Posy / Posie

SlipperOrchid · 19/07/2019 15:02

Indie as a nickname for Infia is my favourite.

I don’t like the name Kai and Kaia is similar.

I can’t imagine a grown woman called Posy. I associate it with the nursery rhyme and in that it isn’t an actual name.

PolkaDotHoneyPot · 19/07/2019 14:57

I love them all to be honest. To all those saying Indie is Indiana Jones' nickname - Indiana is his nickname. He was nicknamed after his family's female dog! His name is Henry.
Posie is probably my favorite. I prefer the Posie spelling also. But Kaia has a lovely relation to your family.

user1493494961 · 19/07/2019 14:47

All dreadful.

Knowivedonewrong · 19/07/2019 14:18

My dog is called Indy. Named after Indiana Jones. If you like it OP you use it. Sod what other people think.

BlueMerchant · 19/07/2019 14:09

Think out of those names I prefer Indie.
Really dislike Posy- sorry.

BinkySodPlop · 19/07/2019 14:00

My first thought on Posy was The Flumps. Mind you, I'm old, so unlikely any of your, or your daughter's, peers would get the reference. They might for the Teletubbies name, tho.... Kaia is nice, as is Indie, but she'd probably be asked what it was short for all the time.
