Thoughts on the name Amara?

Current fave for DD is Amara. Her older brother is Jace.
Opinions? I love it as it's fairly unique but not too out there and easy to pronounce. It's feminine but also strong I think.
Also any middle name ideas?

It’s definitely not a Middle Eastern name.

Amar however is a Middle Eastern boys name.

Amara I would probably guess to be of south Asian heritage.

It’s an ok name. Not blown away by it.

@FartnissEverbeans, it's a common shortening of the name. The name seems to have dwindled in popularity but Jay is popular, and Grayson, Mason and so on are popular.

passthetea · 17/12/2019 11:03

Jace rhymes with race it's a lush name. Amara is lovely op I also love Normani

Winkywoop · 17/12/2019 10:55

I thought Jace rhymed with Chase! Confused

Amara is nice, use it if you want to

FizzyGreenWater · 17/12/2019 10:49

No, sorry.

One of those female names that yes sounds like a model of car!

Nissan Amara

VictoriaBun · 17/12/2019 10:08

I know a family that have the names Amara, Ashfa , Araya and their are all boys.

Mumma4262 · 17/12/2019 10:05

I believe Jace is pronounced Jay-see (or like the initials J-C) for those asking.

Or at least the ones I know are. I like that name.

FartnissEverbeans · 17/12/2019 09:19

@MikeUniformMike Why are you even asking that?

FrownPrincess · 17/12/2019 00:02

The two people I know called Amara are both middle-aged North African men.

Rezaminelli · 16/12/2019 23:56

Never heard of Amara and I think it's beautiful.
I went to uni with a girl called Marah and I liked that too

Leedsmom · 16/12/2019 23:54

I like it. How do you pronounce Jace?

MikeUniformMike · 16/12/2019 23:54

Is Jace short for Jason?

TenThousandSpoons · 16/12/2019 23:52

Pretty. I only know one.

TheReluctantCountess · 15/12/2019 22:02

I’m not keen. It sounds like a car model.

Cohle · 15/12/2019 21:57

It would sound awful in my accent. And it makes me think of supernatural.

PlantPotting · 15/12/2019 21:56

Love the name Amara

AmaraHankins · 15/12/2019 21:39

It has been my name my entire life. I don't care who gets miffed by it they can get stuffed. And no I'm not a dude.

Heratnumber7 · 17/07/2019 23:22

I like Jace. What is the origin of that name? I think it's lovely.

Courtney555 · 17/07/2019 23:18

I liked the name, until I showed it to my mother.

I read and pronounce it as Amaaaahra.

Mother pronounced it Am-a-ra, as in rhymes with camera Hmm and now that's all I think of.

FartnissEverbeans · 17/07/2019 23:14

I absolutely love it. It’s on my list. We live in the Middle East and it would be a nice nod to that.

Sunshine1239 · 17/07/2019 22:38

I’m not a fan sorry

devilishlygood · 17/07/2019 19:22

Amara was a Greek minor goddess, it’s not ‘owned’ by a culture. In fact it has Latin, English and Spanish heritage. It’s truly multi-cultural. If the ill-educated want to spout off about appropriation, ignore.

MrsGaryLightbody · 17/07/2019 14:01

I didn't realise that you could own a name depending on religion, culture or creed. Hmm

I named my lot because I loved their names.
Thinking now , one name is considered Jewish, one Irish/Celtic and the other two biblical.

I'm bad ! Grin

zafferana · 17/07/2019 13:52

It's okay to use it if you like it (you can call your DC whatever you like!). However, you will probably find that people will assume that you have Asian heritage, in the same way that if you call your DC Callum or Erin there is an assumption that you have Irish heritage.

Shadow1234 · 16/07/2019 19:13

Beautiful name. I also met someone recently with the name Aliyah (never heard of it before) and thought that was a beautiful name too.

It wouldn't bother me if I chose that name and didn't have connections to the country it was linked to, and agree with what 'Antonin' said.
