Go for it OP. IME folk generally only regret safe names . I have a Fabian and a Raphael nn Rafe. Don't regret a thing. A friend wanted to call her DS Sonny and chose James as it was a bit out there. She regretted it.

I think both names are ace.

Balthazar?! Isn’t that a Pokemon character? It’s certainly not a name that’s ever crossed my radar, I can’t imagine having one in a class I teach, I’d certainly find it very peculiar! But people lumber their kids with strange names, I work with an Adonis and at first I thought it was hilarious (he doesn’t doesn’t look like one Grin) but I’m used to it now, seems normal. Big name to line up to though isn’t it.. his parents were a bit cruel!

The twins in the Sherlock Holmes novel, The Sign of Four, are called Bartholomew and Thaddeus. The characters are as pretentious as the names sound.

Meh pretentious doesn't bother me. I'm not insecure enough to think my kids are inferior and need boasting with a name to make them special. They'd be special is we picked John and Jack , I just don't like them

I’m not particularly keen on Thaddeus or Balthazar.

I do like the not so many miles away names Thackeray and Bartholomew though.

I've met Misha Collins. At comic con in May. It was my teenagers birthday present.

He winked at me. A big wink. It was quite disconcerting actually. He probably loves me. 🤷‍♀️

I think it's just what sounds good to you. I have DC with one biblical name and a flower. I would still much rather shout Cas and Balt than Jayden and Kayden.

DC are primary age but at different schools. Cas and Balt would fit in at one without any problem at all, might be more unusual at the other school though.

Balthazar is the coolest name ever. It's going to be my grandson's name.

My kids are teenagers and a long way off having kids (I bloody hope!) but I've told them Balthazar will be the name.

Luckily they are supernatural fans so have agreed. For now.

I'm not actually a supernatural fan, I just love the name!

Thaddeus I'm not so keen on, sorry!

Thing is they are going to be real, actual breathing people who have to go to school, and introduce themselves at parties and get jobs!

Can you really see yourself yelling both of those names in soft play? Stand by your back door now and yell them up the garden.

I had a bit of a thing for Balthazar Getty too.

@SleepingStandingUp how about Misha and Dmitri instead? On the plus side the racist commenter wouldn't be happy.

I think something easily shortenable is important though, at some point you will probably be shouting for them in a park. Balt and Cas would be great, I hope I live near you and one hear the immortal words, "Balthazar and Castiel get back here right now!".
