What do you think when you hear it?
Is it popular? Classic?
My grandmother’s name is Margo so sentimental but still unsure.

I really like it.

It seems really popular now but ironically my DD went to school with three Margots and she's 21!

I quite like it. It is of a genration of names that is coming back round into popularity now, but I don't know of any babies in my area who are called it.
I often think, with names, that fashion tends to hit different parts of the country at different times though.

Who said Margaux was an incorrect spelling? Several posters referred to it as if it were the ur-French spelling, which it isn’t. It has only been used as a given name in France since 1980ish (but how interesting to see that @Grufallosfriends is absolutely right that it is now more popular there than Margot).

Well, if we are going to be pedantic, let's mention Marguerite.

And I shall be sure to tell everyone who I meet (in the French speaking country) that they have spelt it wrongly. Hmm

But back to the point, OP, it's a very popular name here, and I really like it. And I do prefer the 'alternative' commonly used spelling.

My sister is Margot (36). She had a tough time at school but loves the name as an adult. I love it.

In France the Margaux spelling appears more popular than Margot.

She wouldn't be margaux really she would be known as Margo with an x.
I think Margot is lovely though (spelling with t well known enough now) it is increasingly popular too so not old fashioned any more.

Margot is the French spelling.

Margaux is a French village and a type of Bordeaux wine. It has only been used as a given name since Margaux Hemingway changed the spelling of her name, Margot.

It's sufficiently well-established now to be a valid alternative but it isn't 'the' French spelling.

I love it, my granny was Margaret nn Margo, if I had a dd would have named her Margaux (I love the French spelling)

I love it, but I think it’s having a moment and might date. It was originally a diminutive of Marguerite, if that’s an option.

I really like the name. There are two of them in DDs reception class.
