Is this too unusual . . . ?

Hi everyone - would love your opinions on our boys name shortlist (I'm only 16 weeks but naturally very excited!)

We both really like Griff . . . and then we doubt ourselves. Neither of us are Welsh, we just really love the name, but I know our friends and family will go "eh . . . ?" (although they'll be polite of course!)

Our other contender is Jesse.

What do you all think?

I really like Griff!

sakura06 · 14/07/2019 19:08

Griff (or Gruff) is an excellent name! Jesse is quite cool too.

Pinktinker · 14/07/2019 11:44

I love Jesse. Griff not so much...

WyncyG · 14/07/2019 09:25

Really like both! Agree that a longer version for Griff would be good, like Gruffydd. It's 2019 so he'll be surrounded by kids with much more unusual names!

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/07/2019 09:09

I like it and don't think it's unusual at all, lots of people will have heard of Griff Rhys Jones. Good luck.

RedPandaFluff · 14/07/2019 09:06

Ahhh this is great, thanks for replying everyone. It has given me a lot more confidence in choosing Griff!

Mind you, we still have a long way to go . . . 😄

Go for it! I like all (Griff, Griffin and Jesse)

Sooverthemill · 14/07/2019 07:43

Griff is nice ( griff Rhys Jones of course always comes to mind but that's my age) I like Jesse but it's much less unusual

LauderSyme · 14/07/2019 07:41

I like Griff but not Jesse. Yes, you should be brave but honestly there's nothing outlandish about it. If your family are going to raise eyebrows, just tell them some of the other names people choose nowadays and they'll heave a sigh of relief!

TatianaLarina · 13/07/2019 23:08

Like Griff. Don’t like Jesse.

ChristinaMarlowe · 13/07/2019 22:17

I like both! Always loved more feminine names for boys, it's masculine, if that makes any sense?! I love Jude, Jesse, Dara, Sascha, Jody, Kelly... DH point blank refused the concept but turned out we had 2 DDs so was irrelevant. (I also like traditionally male names for girls, Sidney, Charlie, Blake, Fred (Frederica), he refused that concept too, but still!)
I prefer Jesse to Griff but they're both nice :)

sproutsandparsnips · 13/07/2019 22:16

What about Gethin, Geth for short?

MondeoFan · 13/07/2019 22:14

I love Griff & Jesse.

I know someone in their 30s whose nickname is Griff as he had a Grifter bicycle years ago

Frankjrjr · 13/07/2019 22:10

Jesse is horrible

HettyStThomas · 13/07/2019 22:02

I have one. He's actually a Gruffydd but we shorten it to Griff/Gruff/Gruffy.
We are in Wales and I've met a few others. It's an awesome name and it suits our cheeky one.

AnotherExWife · 13/07/2019 21:59

I know a Griff, it's a lovely name and really suits him.

MollyHuaCha · 13/07/2019 21:58

Jesse is awful.

Griff reminds me of Gruffalo.

BarryBarryTaylor · 13/07/2019 21:50

It’s a great name!

Icklepup · 13/07/2019 21:49

Griff is nice!

Fedupatforty · 13/07/2019 21:32

We really liked Griff. DH is Welsh but we live in south east. In the end decided it was too unusual for the south east but if we lived closer to wales probably would’ve gone for it. We decided on Doug instead...

RedPandaFluff · 13/07/2019 21:31

I love Nathaniel and Gabe but we have a close relative called Nathaniel and DH doesn't like Gabe (dammit!)

For some reason I'm not keen on the longer versions - Griffin is the nicest but doesn't quite work with our surname (too many 'n's).

I think we should be brave and go for it . . . 😁

Isn’t Griff short for Griffith? I’ve never met a Griffin. (Welsh Marches here).

Rosiesandposies1 · 13/07/2019 21:28

What about making it longer:-

Griffin
Griffiths
Gruffudd

MrsGrindah · 13/07/2019 21:25

Yep Nate’s a good one too. Or Gabe ( Gabriel)?

IncrediblySadToo · 13/07/2019 21:22

Sorry bloody iPhone congratulations!!
