I posted before and got lots of suggestions, I’ve added a few that me and DH thought of ourselves. I know a lot of names are nicknames, but we won’t be putting the longer version on the birth certificate as that’s just personal preference and we don’t see the point in having a name on the birth certificate that we never intend on using (I have a nickname name and that’s never held me back).

Mary
Ada
Pearl
Winnie
Enid
Elsie
Daisy
Edie
Nellie
Opal
Nancy
Tilly
Dottie

Our last name starts in S and is a syllable long. What name would be your favourite? And any middle name suggestions?

I really like Pearl. Winnie and Enid (it was the back up name for DD2). Also quite like Ada but it is becoming more popular, around here at least. Mary is quite vintage cool too though a bit religious

Either don't like the other names or like them as nn but not given names

Love it!

BarryMcguigan · 14/07/2019 13:24

McShakey · 14/07/2019 10:41

We’ve gone for Edie Beatrix Ann as a PP suggested!!

Militantmartha · 13/07/2019 21:53

I'm with you on putting the name you want on the BC rather than a longer one for 'official purposes'

Of your list I like Ada, Tilly, Edie and Elsie

I think Marguerite works best in the middle name with Edie

Frith2013 · 13/07/2019 21:27

Mary - ok
Ada - ok
Pearl - no
Winnie - no
Enid - dreadful
Elsie - ok
Daisy - a cow
Edie - ok but v common
Nellie - the elephant
Opal - the East European car
Nancy - awful
Tilly - ok
Dottie - silly

IVflytrap · 13/07/2019 20:14

I like Edie Heather.

Marguerite also goes nicely.

BarryMcguigan · 13/07/2019 20:06

Edie Marguerite followed by a single syllable S surname is lovely!!

SheldonSaysSo · 13/07/2019 19:13

Edie
Ada
Dotty

Not sure how to fit these with the middle names

McShakey · 13/07/2019 19:11

Family names that could be used for middle names are:

Marguerite
Elizabeth
Hope
Lynette
Heather
Ann

I’d probably have two middle names, one that we like and then one family name

Edie is lovely

McShakey · 13/07/2019 16:41

We’ve narrowed it down to Ada and Edie

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2019 15:48

I like Edie & Mary.

I don't like any of the others.

Shadow1234 · 13/07/2019 15:48

Esie is my favourite

Prettylittlelady · 13/07/2019 15:44

Mary - an old fashioned name and not one that has now become fashionable - really don’t like it.

Ada - lovely

Pearl - lovely

Winnie - the Pooh
Enid - please no

Elsie - nice

Daisy - very overused but it’s fine. Nothing special.

Edie - lovely

Nellie - the elephant

Opal - nice (ish)

Nancy - fine, bit boring

Tilly - very cutsie but ok if that’s your style. Nice if nn for Matilda

Dottie - potential teasing if she has spots growing up.
